POI File Structure

I did a modest trial creating a POI file. About a dozen points. I saved it in an EXCEL CSV file.

POILoader for Garmin says it can use EXCEL CSV files and it made good on it's promise. The points (and my little bitmap icon) all loaded correctly.

Now I'm back to work putting in all the points. There will be about 180 all told.

My question is:

When it comes to sharing the file with the group, do I just upload the EXCEL CSV file?

I ask because I have the sense that some units don't deal well with EXCEL's version of CSV.

Rename

If it loaded ok for you, it should be ok for the rest of us.

You may want to rename the file to what it is; (i.e. RestStop.csv or GasStations.csv) so it will be self-explanatory.

You could also run POI Verifier on it to double-check it.

"Internet: As Yogi Berra would say, "Don't believe 90% of what you read, and verify the other half."

I'll do both of those

I'll do both of those steps.

FWIW, it's a file of airports that support sail planes, aka gliders, and the various clubs and association contact phone numbers (I'm a sailplane pilot).

I chip away at it during lunchtime.

Couldn't find a nice tidy list that I could batch convert. Doesn't matter, it's making me more familiar with the unit and the process.

I have the whole process of converting corp. logos to 24x24 bitmap icons down pat.
