Zip Code files

nickjr,
I sent you message about the Zip Code file.

Several members on this

Several members on this forum have also sent me messages regarding this issue, I appreciate all the info I received today. So far Mkahn, and myself had also the problem of attempting to load the file and our systems crashed..I assume POI Loader has a maximum per any specific POI..

Maybe a bad line

I did some more testing with 2.4.0.1 PoiLoader
Cut file in half...still crash
Cut file down to 10,000 items....still crash
Cut file down to 8,000 items.....still crash
Cut file down to 7,500 items....load ok
Copied last 700 items from 7,000 and pasted back to a total of 8,200..............loads ok

I ran several tests back and forth with same results. Also, my fmRadio Stations has over 10,000 items and it still loads okay.

My hypothesis is that there is some information from line 7,500 to 8,000 that is causing the problem. (Of course, having duplicate information added back might not be the same case)

Possible Problem??

I got the 3 & 4 digit zip code problem fixed so all zip codes are 5 digits.

Is it possible that the "won't load" problem is caused by too many duplicate longitude/latitude entries causing the POI Loader to kick it out? This file is full of exact longitude/latitude data. I removed all of the duplicates and it loaded ok; but the possibility exists that removing all the duplicates also removed the real problem. I'm sure the number of POIs within the file is not the problem as I can load the 'Cemeteries.csv' file with 124,104 lines.

This brings up another questions. Since the different zip codes in the large cities have the same longitude/latitude entries in this file, it appears the longitude/latitude is calculated on the center of the city rather than on the different zip codes within that city. Wouldn't this leave the accuracy of this data in question? Wouldn't it be better to use the zip codes for coordinate calculation?

Got It to Load

nickjr,

I ran the file through gpsvisualizer.com and got the coordinates based on the zip codes. gpsvisualizer.com didn't see 300+ entires as correct zip codes. I removed those entries and it loaded ok. It now has only about half-dozen duplicates vs the hundreds it had before.

If you want to send me an email where I can attach a file, I'll send it to you so you can post it.
