885T problems on first trip

During my recent trip up the east coast, I finally got a chance to utilize my new GPS. One critical issue I had though, was a loss of the ability to find local gas stations via the POI route. Every time my wife or I selected find nearest gas stations, my GPS did a full re-boot, period. I assumed this might be because of the custom gas stations I loaded into it, showing the location of all BP stations, but half way through the trip, the problem seemed to go away, and all worked well with it. Now I had even tried removing the battery to let it re-set, but to no avail. Also, in a target rich environment, (East Rutherford, NJ area) my GPS would occasionally lock-up, and stop updating position, just sitting there until I turned it off, and back on again. Sometimes the unit would continue with the right voice commands, but not update the map. That was the only place it did this, and just as an informational issue, I was trying out the MSN traffic portion also. My "free" 3 month trial version, and I also had a few "TourGuide" warnings set, for Chic-Fil-A and Dunkin Donuts. Gives good traffic info. say around the Harrisburg, PA area, but I felt that over by NYC that might have been why it was hanging-up the GPS,it was getting too much information at once. Any ideas?

No ideas??

I thought for sure someone would have something good about this. Wish I was going right back up to test out my overload theory...

You could always try to

You could always try to simulate the route and let it run after removing all the "extras". Then add stuff back one at time till you find what caused it.

Make sure you have updated the 885's software

Make sure you have updated the 885's software and maps. Sounds like you may be having a problem with one of the POI files or warning sounds you have loaded.

I used my 885T on a 2,000 mile trip in June and it never froze or rebooted even once.

Thanks for this tip!! Didn't think to try this one. Also, "rjrsw", yes, I have the latest versions installed, both the program and the latest map version (2010.10)

Hmmmm... Thanks. Ran and checked mine, and it is 2010.10, and it's only a month or so old (maybe 1 1/2 months??) Got my "free" update via the DVD route though, as I can't download that much info. d/t daily bandwidth issues. I'm limited to 450-500MB daily on hughes.net. Sure wish I had better internet, but they pipe-in sunshine where I live...lol

Midnight to 4AM Eastern Time

Midnight to 4AM Eastern Time is free downloads, on Hughes. Adjust the time accordingly for your TZ.

Pacific would be 9PM to 1AM.

885T

I've had my 885T for a few weeks. It has rebooted 3 times and froze once. 2 of the times it rebooted at the same intersection. This intersection has a red light camera and a speed warning at the same spot. I don't know why it rebooted/froze the other times.

Try the suggestion above about driving in the simulation mode and see if your get the reboots again. I wonder if it has something to do with the 2 items at the same spot.
