Nuvi 360 Bluetooth connection

I understand that the 360 can have devices connect to it for hands free junk. But can I connect the 360 to a bluetooth car deck (via bluetooth) and have the navigation play through my car speakers?

I plan on buying a new car deck in the near future, and this is the deciding factor.

No . . .

. . . . the only Garmin devices that have that capability now are the Zumo series and of those, only the Zumo 660 supports A2DP (stereo) Bluetooth - and not well, at that.

The Bluetooth in your unit only allows you to pair your phone to the navigator and use it as a speakerphone and to dial from the navigator's touchscreen.

Some models have FM transmitters (not yours), but unless you use the built in MP3 player provided in your particular Nuvi, that's a complete pain in the rear because you'd lose the ability to listen to music and get your directions at the same time.

Your unit has a 'headphone out' jack that can be wired to the vehicle's entertainment system - same issues with that as with an FM transmitter.

Use the audio out jack

If you have an AUX input jack on your car stereo, this is the best method of getting your nav prompts to play through your car speakers. The audio quality is FAR superior to anything that Bluetooth or an FM transmitter is capable of.

An added bonus is if you use the MP3 player in your Nuvi, it will pause the music playback when it issues navigation prompts and then resume the miusic when the prompt is finished.

I agree with you on this. My Nuvi came with the FM transmitter and it's not all that great. The audio jack is the best way to go if you don't mind the cables.

Bleh

Thanks. Right now that's how I have the unit set up. Wires through the interior roof, down the A-post, out through the dash, and finally to the radio. (The dock is attached to my passenger sun visor)

I was hoping I could get away from the wires but it looks like I'll have to wait a few more years. I wish they would have put that audio jack on the back, not sticking out of the side.

+1

I absolutely agree that it complicates things when you need to plug and remove the headphone jack when everything else is on the quick-release base.

What bothers me more is that while they may have a legitimate reason for not putting the headphone jack on the base there is no similar excuse for the Zumo product line since they DO bring the audio out to the base for the motorcycle mounts.

Yet you are still forced to plug your aux in cable into the unit itself - all for a measly $800

.

Sundive - if you are mechanically inclined you can modify the gps cradle to add an audio jack. Then you don't have to plug/unplug the audio line every time you put the gps in the cradle.

Here's a detailed thread discussing the mod
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=91718&...

Cradle audio out

I was looking at that a while ago. But that mod isn't possible for a 360. The cradle for the 6xx - 8xx are 18 pin. The cradle for a 2xx - 3xx are 4 pin. Also, the cradle doesn't (to my knowledge) have any audio out sources that I could connect to. Just power in, ground, audio in and audio ground.

If I would have known earlier that the 360 was set up the way it is, I would of bought a 7x5. Then I would of made the modifications.

I did find a compromise though. It's more than I wanted to spend for a car system. But it will do what I want. I'm still researching the product. I hope the first link is all I need (Hoping it's universal with all bluetooth recievers). Though I'll probably get the whole setup. It'll detect the voice prompts and mute a radio/ipod to play the prompts (like the gps does now).

I don't own a 7x5 but don't they have the ability to connect audio via bluetooth?

From my understanding of the 7x5, it's phone by bluetooth and gps by transmitter. And the transmitter is terrible.
