Questions about POI file formats, etc.

Hi,

I am new to poi collecting and publishing, and have some questions about the two main poi file formats: .csv and .gpx. I have learned that Garmin can read both .csv and .gpx file while TomTom requires .ov2 format.

What about navigoators from other manufacturers (Navman, Mio, Magellan, etc.) and GPS enabled mobile phones (Nokia, iPhone, etc.)? Do they all read .csv or .gpx files?

On a related question, where can I find instructions about transfering poi file from PC to GPS navigators from different manufacturers? I searched in the FAQs on this site, but have only seen instructions for Garmin, TomTom and Magellan. Where can I find information about transfering POI file to the other GPS navigators such as Navman, Mio, Nokia, iPhone, etc.?

Thank you.

I would contact the

I would contact the manufacturer of those other devices for POI loading instructions.

As One-Step says

Each manufacturer has their own requirements for loading custom POI - and their own limitations on if it can be done at all.

I believe the Mio brand did not allow custom POI and the brand has disappeared with their buying the Magellan name. I don't foresee any changes as far as Magellan is concerned. Navigon was another brand that did not allow custom POI although there is/was a program that would add custom POI to some versions. If I remember correctly, Navigon kept doing software updates to block the custom POI program as they sold POI updates as an add-on.

The IPhone would require the devlopment of an approved application to handle custom POI, and then that app would have to be compatible with the different GPS programs being made available

And Apple would require the POI files to go thru ITunes so they could profit off of the creators work.
