GARMIN MILEAGE INDICATIONS

I have a question that I hope some of you can explain for me. I noticed tonight on my 755T, whenever you go to "Recently Found" or "Favorites", whenever you're on the page that lists all of the places, the mileage shown for each of those places is different from the mileage shown when you actually click on one of those addresses. For example, I have my brothers house in the Ozarks listed in Favorites... on the "favorites" page it shows his house as being 276 miles ( which it is not ), but whenever I click on his address and it goes to that particular "page", it shows his address as being 384 miles away ( which is accurate ). And I've noticed this is the case for almost all of the entries.. Can someone please explain why this is and what, if anything I can do to correct it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Your inital distance shown

Your inital distance shown is a how the crow flies distance, when you choose it you get a calculated road route.

Nuvi 3790LMT, Nuvi 760 Lifetime map, Lifetime NavTraffic, Garmin E-Trex Legend Just because "Everyone" drives badly does not mean you have to.

.

The distance given when you are NOT navigating to a favorite, POI, etc is "As the crow flies" or in a straight line from where you are to that point. When the route is calculated to the point, it takes all roads into consideration and computes the actual driving mileage.

Ballpark Estimate

It's been my experience that if you take the "as the crow" flies mileage and add another 1/3 to 1/2 you get in the ballpark of the actual mileage. In the OP example the actual mileage is about 40% greater than the as the crow flies mileage.

Correct. Those are just estimate by straight line.

Probably true unless:

-you're trying to drive from Skagway to Haines, or...

-from ther South to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

wink

Add Avoidances

Factor in a couple of Avoidances and you're actual mileage may be even greater.

Yep, that South Rim to North Rim distance is no where near accurate, unless you're taking the mule trip down, across and back up.
