NUVI support for large capacity SDHC cards

Just got back from a trip to NYC for work. While there I picked up a Trascend 16gb microsd card and SD card adapter. It's really for my Nokia N95 to store data files, music and Garmin stuff. But I thought I'd load some music up on it and pop it into the NUVI 360. Wow, it works! 16gb of music in the NUVI! Well, actually about 3gb right now, but I will definitely load it up. The songs play nicely and the card seems to be read fairly fast. Thought people would like to know if you are using a NUVI as an in-car MP3 player.

There is a limit

to the number of MP3 files that are supported on the 360. I believe it is 1000. Since you can put a lot more files than that on a 16GB card you may find you won't be able to access all of those files using the Nuvi's MP3 player.

Nuvi MP3 player

You probably will find, as I did, that the MP3 player lacks quite a bit. If you try to listen to audio books as MP3, it will start out in the middle, so you have to restart, sometimes it will lose it's place when you stop it, you will have to fast forward, many times that will not work, and you will end up at the same spot over and over. If the book has more than one track it may not play them in order, but randomly. You may have 1000 songs, but it will play 20 or so then repeat. What I'm trying to say is don't be too elated with how well the MP3 player works, until you've used it quite a bit.

SDHC Cards

I use a 16 GB card in my Nuvi 350 too. It works great to store POI's & mp3 files. I haven't noticed any peculiarities.

I improved the sound in my car significantly by playing it thru an Aux in to my radio/CD system though. Much better than earphones (which are unsafe while operating the car) or the built in speaker.

8 GB

I have an 8 GB card and adapter loaded with about 1700 songs and it is playing just fine, and as said in the message before (2 up ) some times you need to start all over again if you are on the middle of the album, I avoid this putting the mp 3 player in pause before turning it off.

MP3 audiobooks work great for me.

I have not had the MP3 problems reported by ralphy1. I play MP3 audio books all the time, and I like how it interrupts the play to give navigation directions, then picks back up where it left off. When I shut down, it automatically remembers my place when I start back up as long as I don't switch to a different book or playlist. I do create m3u playlists so it will automatically play the chapters in order. Also, you need to make sure you turn off the repeat and shuffle functions in the player.

nuvi 350 question

I have a nuvi 350 and was wondering if there was some way to get it to work with the newer sd cards? If anyone could help, i'd appreciate it.

Thanks
