While listening to local talk radio and their discussion of area red light camera issues (and reduced yellow light times), I decided to research POI files. I found POI Factory and seem to recall having found the site before but lost track of it. Anyway, I've signed up and have started checking out the goodies.

I'm thinking I can help out with local brewpubs and microbreweries. I found the Chicago metro project and the Illinois state brewpub/micro POI so will see what's there and where I can help out.

You got questions?

joelambic,

If you've got questions about POIs and GPS usage, you have found the right forum.

Welcome to one of the finest resources on the Internet, and you will find friendly people here too!

Download Guidance

I can use some help. I can download OK but would like to know about the pictures and sounds that are listed.
Are these options? When more than one image or sound is available are they smart enough to attach themselves to the proper POI?
I've downloaded sets for the motels my family usually stays in and wonder if the pictures show up on my nuvi's screen when we pass by.

Your thoughts and guidance please.

Regards,
Bill

Another New User

What a useful site this is. So glad to see that people are so friendly and helpful. And did I mention polite. Just wanted to say hello and express my appreciation to all the members. Without your valuable information I probably would have tanked my new 755T had I not known to update the software BEFORE the first use.

Here is some guidance on pictures and sounds

Garmin 265 WT

you can also do a search and find more info.

If you havn't already done so, go to garmin.com and download (free) POI-Loader.

Next Pick the CVS file and associated icon (
BMP file) and alert sound (MPG) and put all three files in a directory on your computer. i.e. C:\garmin\load-poi

All three files should be named the same except for the extension:

mypoi.csv
mypoi.bmp
mypoi.mp3

Then run POI-loader. It will ask where the files you wish to load are located. You enter c:\garmin\load-poi

Follow the prompts in POI-LOADER to complete the process. (hint: choose express mode the first time)
