Happy 142nd Birthday Canada

It seems as if was just last week you celebrated the coronation of the Queen. I was a youngster driving with my parents up the Alcan.

Happy Canada Day to our neighbors to the north.

Yikes, I hope you were waxing nostalgic because Elizabeth has been our monarch since 1953!

We are not quite as boisterous as you Americans, but most Canadians enjoy the party on July 1. Living in a small town, we have a parade in the morning, afternoon entertainment at the arena and then fireworks after the sun goes down (usually 10 PM up here).

And just to be clar... we do not celebrate canada Day by making snowmen on July 1.

Oh, I traveled the Alcan for the 3rd time 50 years later in 2003.

I grew up near a border town in Ontario. The best Canada Day's (used to be Dominion Day) were the ones that fell on a Friday. That way we got a fireworks show in Canada then and another one from our American friends on Monday for their Independence Day. Pretty nice weekend!

Now, could anyone tell me the distinction between the names "Canada Day" and "Dominion Day"?

Dominion Day was the original name from 1867 and in 1982 it was changed to Canada Day and here we are.
