Garmin 200W

Anyone else have one of these?

I picked one up about a week ago. So far, I like it a lot. More expensive models do more, but for my 1st GPS that I just use occasionally - its pretty nice.

I've always been a "map on the side of the road" kinda guy - so it's nice to actually have one of these.

Yep, had one ...

I had the nuvi 200 for over 2 years and loved it. I then upgraded to the nuvi 255 with MSN for the traffic and gas price updates. My wife uses the 200 and she loves it. Even though the GUI has changed somewhat, it's still a pleasure to use.

Nuvi 200

I just gave my Nuvi 200 (not the W) to my daughter last night. Great little unit as long as you worked within its limits. I upgraded to one of the top of the line units the 885. BB had them for $399.

I will state I played with mine for a couple of months before I found POI-Factory. I didn't know that Garmin had a complete user manual on-line, the only thing I had was the little quick start book which left a lot more questions unanswered than answered. I figure it will take me a bout a month to learn most the bells and some of the whistles.

One final thing, if you don't have it, get a bean-bag or the "old" friction mount as Garmin calls it. The Amazon sale at 14.95 may still be going on.

mount

For now, I like the window mount with the suction cup well enough.

I have it right above my inspection sticker - in the lower left corner. It's handy enough that I need not lean forward to reach it that way - and I didn't want to stick anything to my dash.

I plan to leave it in the car once we get past this blasted Texas summer heat. I don't want to leave it in the car when it's probably 160+F inside of a hot car parked in the sun.

No stickum

The friction mount is not stuck to anything, it is what is says. Friction, I have had one for about 18 months and love it, if you do some research on the site it has been discussed indepth. you may change your mind,

I've seen it

I have read about it - and, I saw some comments about the problems with the newest one, and the suggestion to stick with the older ones.

Surprised you could still find a 200W these days...

When I got mine a while back, it was probably just about ready to be replaced by the 205W, and the others in the 2x0 series.

In spite of that, I've found mine to be indispensible, even though it lacks cool features which I'm now aware of. However, as a navigation unit, I'm sure that its just as capable as the more expensive units. So for its primary purpose, it works perfectly for me.

Knowing what I know now about GPSrs (almost entirely from what I've learned here at POI-Factory) now, I wish it also had itineraries (or multiple waypoints), and I wish I wouldn't keep running out of room to store favorites.

Beyond that, my 200W goes everywhere with me, including calculating my ground speed while flying at 30,000 feet. Best part? It is so "basic" that I've got a perfect excuse to get the 1490T when it comes out and play with a GPSr with all the "bells and whistles".

200w is a great basic unit

I, like others have enjoyed my 200W. I don't need all the bells and whistles like traffic, etc.

I have noticed tha battery life is considerably shorter than when it was new . . . just a couple hours now. No big deal, since it's mostly used plugged in, but I do like carrying it around when I'm on foot in a big city (like Chicago, when I visit my daughter at school).

kewl

Well, glad to hear that everyone likes theirs.

Yes, after following this website for a while, I have learned a lot. I knew zero about GPSs when I bought mine. I have since looked at other units that have the same price, but more features. But, most of them have a smaller screen.

I do like the larger screen. And honestly, I really don't need some of those extra features anyway.

New GPS

I just picked up the garmin 205W from walmart.com. They recently rolled back the price so its about $139. Great buy. I'm in love with the thing already!

always something better!

Yes, I have seen that. I think it's like $115 or $119 at Sams right now... and, I could have gotten a higher model at Sams for what I paid for the 200W. Oh well...
