Does the Nuvi 200 support route avoidance?

I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I get really annoyed when it tells me to go a way I know will take to long or be bogged in traffic.

Perhaps you can offer what is the lowest end model that does support the route avoidance?

I did it my way

I can't answer your question.

I have experienced an unacceptable route calculation with my nuvi 350. I wanted another route, what I did was stop my route and re-initiated route from new position on my chosen route. The gps recalculated and continued my direction.

.

All nuvis have what is called a detour function:

Quote:

The nuvi attempts to get you back on your original route as quickly as possible. If the route you are currently taking is the only reasonable option, the nuvi might not calculate a detour.

Under the specs for all of the nuvi series, I see this:

Quote:

Route avoidance (avoid highways, tolls etc.): yes

If you want to set up custom street/area avoidances, the loweset-end nuvi that supports this is the 8x5 series.

Yes

The nuvi 200 has the same avoidance options as the other 2xx series nuvis (and likely most other series), with the exception of traffic.

On my old top of the line at

On my old top of the line at the time Magellan 760 if you were sitting in traffic too long it would ask if you want to detour. That option is clearly not on this Nuvi 200, but I what I found helpful was in a turn by turn list, I could touch a street and then delete it, which was an easy way to force a recalc without that particular freeway,

This became really crucial to learn how to do last ngiht, since there was a tanker spill or something at the PA Turnpike/ I-76 interchange was entirely closed. Every attempt to tell the gps (while I was bored and sitting there for 45 min) kept telling me go back to the same onramp that was closed.

How do you delete a turn on a route? Or delete a whole freeway?

Right on the first menu

Right on the first menu screen, do you have a Detour button?

Press Detour

If the GPSr is routing you, press Detour from the main screen. It will get you off your currect road ASAP.
