Apology Not Accepted!

Garmin was a day late and a dollar short with their email and apology. The only apology I will accept is a follow up email announcing "Garmin is accepting applications for a Head of Software Engineering, and Chief of Software Quality Control these positions need filling immediately" with an address to send a CV.

Understand

I understand the frustration. I have a Garmin, number 2 the first one I had was a Conquest for my harley, it worked just fine but after a year and a half garmin sent me a e-mail that I should get the new maps for my system. Walla I did so and tried to install it wouldn't go many times, called garmin they said it was the wrong software that was sent and they would send the new one ASAP. Well I got it and tried to install it no go, hmmmm called garmin this time they said that my unit wasn't upgradeable! Why I asked, because it was made for a Herley and was made to their specs? I asked why would you sell me a product that wasn't upgradeable with in a year (now this is the expensive one that's supposed to handle all the vibrations of a motorcycle), the tech didn't know so on up the line with supervisor after supervisor let's try this and that, still no go. So finally after two days of try this and that the supervisor said the only thing I can do is offer you a even trade upgrade to a Quest2 unit that will fit the mount you already have. BINGO, it did and has worked just great and have had several map upgrades and firm ware updates. So I think I'll stick with my old Quest2 for now.

.

The bottom line in my humble opinion is that Garmin has either outsourced their programming or they fired all of their initial programmers and hired monkeys in their place. Ever since the 300/600 models the Nuvi line has gone downhill as far as software bugs.

Heck, Garmin can't even get the currency converter to work right on the 7x0 models. And thats a frickin simple calculator.

Dealer

When the new Lexus 2009 map came out in December I called a lexus dealer and asked it he had one of the old ones. He had one and I got it for $50. Otherwise you are right it would cost about $250. I have a 2007 ES350 and I bought it in May of 2006 so it had the 2005 map. Buying the 2008 map made me 3 years newer. Very very simple to install...only took less than 5 minutes.

Bad luck

I have not had any problems with both of my Garmin's. I will say that the power switch is horrible on one of them but it works.

However, your and the general computer using community's acceptance of Microsoft's bug-infested code as a product you'll pay for is what's lowered the bar for the entire industry. How many known bugs in each MS OS for the last decade? Microsoft has proven that you don't have to fix the bugs, yoiu'll buy it anyway.

Speak with your wallets

That is because they had a Monopoly. With a GPS, you can buy several other brands and get the same functionality. Switch brands, that is the best way to be heard.

Well... you have other OS

Well... you have other OS choices: Leopard (Mac), Ubuntu or other Linux flavors.

There's no bug free software in this world especially those which contains million lines of code. It's just a matter of time before someone discovers and exploits it.

Last month, Apple fixed about 50 Safari browser bugs:

two 360's a 370, and a 350. No problems at all except when I dropped the 350 and they gave me another FREE! I'm going to stick with Garmin until all 4 blow up on me!

tried e-bay? I got an update for a Lexus there.

Apolgy not...

I believe the first step has taken place. Best Buy has pulled a lot of the troubled products from their shelves and their computers.

Let's see if another large retailer steps up to the plate.

If you ain't got pictures, I wasn't there.

They will be back

Best Buy pulled the xx5 units that had the 'updating software' issue. Now that there is a fix I'm sure they will be available again as soon as their existing stock is updated or new shipments are received.

I think Amazon also pulled these models as well but ones like the 765 are back on the site again.

If you don't like their product, buy from someone else. It's real simple

2597 Sometimes I wonder..."Why is that Frisbee getting bigger?"...and then, it hits me.

That's good news, in a sense...

At least it means I don't have the only 750 that does this.
