Nuvi 750 voice updates

I have the Garmin Nuvi 750 and every time i check for the updates online there are voice updates for the American voices. i update all 3 that are there. then i disconnect.. restart the nuvi. then if i reconnect to the Garmin Update. the same voice updates show that they werent updated.

anyone know whats going on with this?

Known problem

I believe the problem self-corrected after Jill 2.20. What version of the voices do you have?

version

i go into the system settings and it says i have audio version 2.00

is that what tells me the voice version? or is there another place that tells me the voice version?

edit***

looks like Jack voice is stuck at version 1.4
and the Jill is at 1.8

I heard there's an ozzy

I heard there's an ozzy osbourne voice. Anyone has it?

.

@nansoutey:

When I bought my 760, Jack was at 1.50 and Jill was at 1.80. Webupdater updated them to 1.70 and 2.20 respectively. Subsequent runs of Webupdater do not find Jack/Jill updates.

The only curious thing is that neither of the original versions on my unit appear in the update logs:
Jack 1.40 --> 1.70
Jill 1.80 --> 1.90 --> 2.20

i get the update for jack and jill and install them both. then when i go back to check again. the same update is still available. not the case for the basic American English voice option it just says 'no updates'

just bugs me

is there any way to download the voice updates manually and place them into a folder .. instead of doing the webupdate method?

Manual Download of Voices

Have you checked that to see that the voice version (e.g. 1.70) in the file is what you are expecting?

I just ran WebUpdater, and although I have the current version of Jack, it insists on offering the update again. sad

Open the Jack file in Notepad (the file name is English_American_Jack.vpm). You will see a text section containing the following:

<part_nmbr>006-D0526-00</part_nmbr>
<ver_nmbr>1.70</ver_nmbr>
<dll_file>English_American_Jack.vpm</dll_file>

If the current version is not on the nuvi, you could try this:

On a USB flash drive or SD card, create a Garmin folder and copy the GarminDevice.xml file from the Garmin folder on your nuvi. When you run Webupdater, choose the drive letter of the flash drive or SD card in the Devices: dropdown list. Copy the updated voices to the \Garmin\Voices folder on your nuvi (after backing up the originals)

Voice Updates Still Showing

I have the same issue - unless it's a feature. Voice updates that I have already installed continue to show in WebUpdater. It could be that is the way it is meant to work. I might check with Garmin.

Jack and Jill updated and are happy

I've had a 750 for about 5 months. When I first ran WebUpdater, it had updates for Jack and Jill, but since then it has not. I recently ran it to install SW Version 4.80, and at that time there were no updates for Jack or Jill.

I'd bet a phone call to Garmin would get that fixed.

It's very odd

It's very odd. For the first year or more, when running WebUpdater for my 750, voice updates I had already downloaded and installed continued to reappear each time I ran the updater. But for the past 6-12 months, repeats of voice updates I had already installed no longer appear. All is odd.

What I can suggest to everyone is the very low tech method I used when the problem existed for me: keep a PostIt note near your computer and write on it the latest updates you've installed. Then when running WebUpdater, check to see if the voice offered are newer than the ones on your PostIt. Only download new voices newer than your PostIt--and be sure to update your PostIt when newer voices are installed.

PostIt

Is this the same PostIt note where you keep all your user IDs and passwords? LOL!
