SD card recommendations?

Hey Folks,

I am going to get a 4 gig SD card for my Garmin Nuvi 260 GPS today.

Question about SD cards:

Do SD Micro Cards (with adapter) work just as well as full size SD cards?

I have the choice to get either - but don't know if one is better (more stable?) than the other.

Any suggestions for brands to consider (or avoid) would be great help too.

cheers from Portland.

SD card recommendations?

In my experience, I haven't found one type to be more stable than the other. Generally, the only limitation with the micro cards is size. My recommendation would be to purchase a standard card with the largest storage space that you can afford; the more space the better. But be wary of cheap cards. They can prove to be unreliable.

I'd opt for the Micro SD card with adapter.

I don't know about how stable one type of card is over the other, but what happens in a few years when you purchase a newer unit and it requires a Micro SD card? Now you will have to make another purchase. I found this to be true with the Micro card I bought for my Nuvi. I'm happy I purchased a 4gig Micro SD card because once I got a newer unit and wanted to upgrade to a larger SD card, that my old 4 gig Micro wouldn't be dumped in a drawer and never used again. It now is being used in my cell phone. You may even have another electrical device that will require the Micro card, so why not plan for the future? Keep in mind the Micro SD card with adapter will work in both types of slots. I think a large share of digital cameras now and in the future will require the Micro SD cars because the cameras are getting smaller.

SD cards

That type of card you need would depend on how much you need to store. I you don't need more than 2 GB then a normal SD card is fine. If you need more space, you would need to go to SDHC types. There different classes of SDHC but I would go with at least a class 4's since class 6's are somewhat more expensive. I generally stick to Kingston myself.

A no brainer for under 10 bucks

I have this card (the first one listed) and its been working fine for both my old Nuvi and now its in my cell phone doing a fine job there as well...

Both are class 6.
One has Micro SD card and adapter.
The other one also includes a mini adapter (I've never come across any device that requires that adapter, but it must be required by SOMETHING:).

Micro-Card

Almost everything is going to micro cards, the new Nuvi 885t takes a micro.
I always tend to purchase the most memory that seems to be cost effective. i.e. when the 16Gig card comes out, the 8Gig drops drastically in price, so I bought two of the 8Gig micro cards.
One to store music, I play my music in my van through my Garmin Nuvi, which incorporates turn by turn, alerts, phone, and everything else through the auxiliary jack in my radio. Through my speakers.
The second one is used for Bible programs and e-books.
The brands I find to work best are the San-Disk and Kingston brands.
I have had bad experiences with the Micro-Center brands, which are off brands with the micro-center name imprinted on them.
Get out and enjoy the weather, and have an excuse to watch your Garmin work

A-Data used to be the generic brand, but anymore they take higher quality brands and overstock and out their own name on it. I have used all sorts of A-Data products over the past 2 years without a problem.

I would agree with the suggestions of getting the microSD with adapter just to be safe.
