Creating POI's

I would appreciate any information on how people create large POI data files like all "Starbucks" including their locations and phone numbers. Where is this data derived from?

good question
Some company websites have store location features that are more user friendly then others. I have decided that I really like the ones that you click on a state and they give you all their locations for that state. I don't really like the ones that ask for a city or zip code, that just would take too long.
I am sure that throughout this process there will be new ways to do things suggested by others. It will be a fun learning process for all of us
