Seeing POI on the map

I have a garmin nuvi (285W) and once you zoom in to were everything is really close on the map it start showing the POI and there icons. I wanted to know if there was a way to show all the POI when viewing the map from further away? Also is there a way to see the POI when you are driving in the “3D” mode?

I missed this (similar) feature from an old handheld, and posted a while ago hoping for a workaround. I think they want us to see the streets so they're starting to remove distractions from the map. like the details ...
sigh.
