new maps for this year????

They release only one a year???

The Garmin map updates are released quarterly. The numbering system is (typically) changed annually with the spring quarter update.

So the next one would be in September?

Should be July. 2010.1 was out this past April.

I've not loaded a new map yet, what is the process like. Connect to Garmin and download a file? How long does it take? Seems like it would be a huge file.

The entire process (downloading the file, extracting it, and installing it to the unit) will take several hours depending upon the speed of your internet connection and your computer.

If you have a broadband connection it may take a half hour or so to download the map from Garmin (what it took me) but then it's roughly an hour to upload it from your computer to the GPS. The good news is you can set and forget. There's no prompting for input during either process. Result, even with a pokey connection you can download while you're sleeping overnight and the file will be waiting for you to upload while you're having breakfast (or whatever) in the morning.

Great, that's when I plan to purchase 755T.
