Combined Rest Areas vs. State Rest Areas

I was driving I-40 in Arkansas this weekend and didn't get an alert for this Rest Areas:
-93.85333,35.51987,"I-40 MM 36 Eastbound","Restrooms, Phones, Picnic Tables, Pet Walk Area, Handicap Facilities"

I don't find it in the combined file, but it is in the Arkansas file.

So do the state files stay more up to date than the combined?

I am not trying to be critical, I fully realize the monumental task it takes to do all these files and the effort it would take to keep them in sync.

Maybe I missed it in the combined file when I searched it. My 255w was recognizing the other rest areas and they were very helpful. Once again, I appreciate all the effort that has went into creating these files.

Rest Areas

Not to speak for Mrken, but that rest area is in the combined file at -93.850986 35.521014. that puts it at the enterance to the ramp to turn off to the rest area. The coord you gave was inside the rest stop and it will not alert from the interstate. In some cases the state files are updated regualary but for the combined file Mrken updated them on a regulary and more often if someone sends him updated info. I used google earth to check for this rest stop. Good luck and safe travels.

Right

That was a copy of the Arkansas reststop file. They may have the wrong position. I was using the combined file, and it didn't alert when I went by there Saturday, but did alert on the others.

Combined Rest Areas vs. State Rest Areas

sorry for the late reply. I have had a coulpe of diferent rest areas that didn't alert when I went by but did on the return trip. When mrken get back home he may check the coord but it looked good when I looked at it.

There are several posts on

There are several posts on the state rest areas that the coordinates are at the rest stop location and not on the road. Can not say all are like that but several members have check some problem areas of not getting alerts and the coordinate location was the problem. The combine file by MrKenFL http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6643 has the location at the entrance to the rest stop.

He was using Mrken's combined file when it didn't alert. The coord he posted was from the Ak state file which did put the coord inside the rest stop.

You sure about that?Maybe I am reading it wrong but took this sentence from his post above.

Edit.Johnm405 .I missed that one he later used the combined file and didn't get the alert.Use your coordinates on Google and this is the results http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=...

I found it

I also found it with google earth and it is the same coord as what ken has in his combinded file. Could have just been a fluke. Maybe he can try it again if he goes that way soon. I have had a couple of interstate coord not alert me but they worked the next time I went by the same location.

I was using the combied file and it didn't alert, but did alert on the others. The poi information I posted was from the Arkansas file.

I was going westbound and the rest area was at mile marker 36 on I-40 in Arkansas.

thanks for all the replies

Do you 4wheel in your jeep? If so, have you ever been in Ouray?

4 Wheel

I don't use it for four wheeling as far as climbing hills and things like that. I only use it for snow and offroad driving when I go places in the motorhome then take some of the back roads and places like that. Yes I have been in Ouray but on a motorcycle.
