Camera Coverage

I haven't encountered any cameras yet, so my questions are
Do the cameras photograph the front plate?
The rear plate?
Both?
How about States like Florida that have no front plate?

It depends

it's up to how the local Municipality writes the law and the ordinance to back it.
Some require frontal face shot some only the back of the head along with the plate shot.

You would think there would be a little standardization done on these gosh darn camera things, since it appears that they are here to stay.

To be sure your not going to get a ticket, slow down and come to a full stop on red short of the line and before making that right turn.

Our local cameras only photograph the rear of the car. The photos show the intersection and the color of the light.

With our system, two photos are taken.. One photo is taken just before the car enters the intersection against the red light and the other is taken a fraction of a second later when the car is in the intersection contrary to the red light. There is no need to photograph the driver because the ticket goes to the registered owner of the car... Because of this, no driver demerits can be issued

Our local authorities have a web page explaining how they work: http://www.winnipeg.ca/police/safestreets/is_camera_tech.stm

You should try a Google search.. Your local authority might have something similar.....

Red Light cams

It's the same in Calgary. Our local cameras only photograph the rear of the car. The photos show the intersection and the color of the light. It will also take your speed if there is a speed cam in with the red light cam. The city does not have a speed cam in every red light cam box.

just be sure you install a

just be sure you install a dash cam so if a red light camera falsely accuses you of running a red you can dispute it with your own camera. wink

I was just kidding. wink I'm sure it can be done but would be kind of impractical because you'd have to keep recording a ton of footage since you won't know if you got a ticket or not til weeks later.

But would be nice to have that option.

Dash Cam -

That would be a great idea. You are right about saving the tapes, you would have to have as many miles of tape as you drive, but what a great idea.

We have to figure out a way to password protect or encrypt the files so big brother didn't come and take them away from us.
