When I download the poi's to my desk top they don't show up as downloadable when I browse for them.....What am I doing wrong? I have a MACBook pro

Do you mean files you have downloaded from this site - either csv or gpx format?
Not sure what you mean by "they don't show up as downloadable?"

Be sure that you place the Custom POI file(s) into a folder on your computer. Then point POI Loader to the FOLDER (not the FILE) when it asks for the source of the data.
You will not be able to select the FILE.
