Garmin 255W

I've been using this wonderful website for several months now and it's great. I have a Garmin 260 that I plan to give to my daughter. I think I'll replace it with a Garmin 255W. Question... with a 255W will I be able to install custom POI's and sound and speed alerts? Would you consider moving from a 260 to a 255 an upgrade?
Thanks

Garmin 255W

I just did that. The answer to your questions is yes.

Upgrade

Gave my 260 to my wife, bought a 255W for myself. If you think the 260 was great just wait. A 255 is the same as a 265 without the Bluetooth and free traffic.

Very Good

I really like the 255w. You will have to download the sox.exe to your computer so you can get the sound. I don't know if you have to do that with 260. I don't know how fast the 260 is at acquiring satellites, but 255w is very very fast. I don't think anything can be faster.

Sox.exe

Thanks for the tip. Where do I get the Sox.exe file to download?

MrKenFL- "Money can't buy you happiness .. But it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery." NUVI 260, Nuvi 1490LMT & Nuvi 2595LMT all with 2014.4 maps !

Here is a little outline

Here is a little outline I typed out for wav files.

a. Download the latest PoiLoader file at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
b. Download Sox Exe at http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip .
c. After un-zipping Sox Exe file place it in your Garmin folder where the PoiLoader exe file is located on the computer.
d. The wav file for alerts will be named the same as the CSV or GPX file except for the extensions.
e. You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say or use a program to convert mp3 files to wav. When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono. Wav files are also on site for download.
