Traffic subscription for Nuvi 755T

Hi,

I just purchased a 755T which comes with a free lifetime Navteq traffic subscription. Unfortunately Navteq doesn't cover my region, but Clear Channel does. Am I able to purchase a Clear Channel subscription to override the Navteq on my GPS unit? When I plug in the unit and go to the traffic settings, it only shows me an option for Navteq and prompts me to enter a subscription code (apparently since I'm not in the coverage area it doesn't activate automatically). How do I get it to give me an option for subscribing to Clear Channel?

Thanks.

Clear channel

I have the 765T and I had wanted to do the same thing. When I checked with Garmin they told me I would need to purchase a new receiver (gtm20) and then the clear channel subscription for it, that I could not purchase the clear channel for use with my current receiver. However, from reading other posts, it appears it will work. As of this time I have not done either yet.

.

I purchased the $60 Clear Channel Lifetime subscription for the GTM 20 that came with my 765 (Navteq Lifetime) and it works just fine using both subscriptions. Depending on your coverage area & reception, if both subscriptions on the unit are active, the traffic subscription/provider used is the one that is connected first. If connection is lost on one, it will automatically switch to the other if it's available. The whole process is automatic and you cannot choose which subscription will be used.

The same hardware is used for both Clear Channel & Navteq. The only difference is the subscription(s) on the unit.

you are asking 'how' to add the Clear Channel subscription? Following link will lead you to Garmin's traffic page where you can purchase additional subscriptions:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=268&pID=36805

In effect, you need to subscribe from the website rather than the unit itself.

The site does now at least list product compatibility with the traffic services.

subscribe online

you subscribe online, and then hit the "add subscription" button under tools/traffic ...

you will get reg. number from the website to enter into your nuvi

I have been underwhelmed

I have been underwhelmed with the performance of my 755t (GTM20) free lifetime traffic so far. The biggest issue by far is simple reception. The range in metro Boston ends between 495 and 128 belts. That makes it less than useful for me.

I'm only a few days into this new device so I don't have a large sample set yet, but this is my early observation.

755T RECEPTION

Oh Wonderful..... my 755t is scheduled to be delivered to my home tomorrow..... poor reception huh?... that's great news and it's not even out of the box yet...

Poor Reception

I have read wire placement makes a difference in reception. Try placing the plug-in wire on top of the dash. I use mine in a motor coach with it laying beside the drivers side window and get good reception. Better than when I let it just hang to the floor. Try and see if that makes a difference.

traffic reception ...

my 765t has been great ... saved me many times!

I have tried fiddling with

I have tried fiddling with wire placement (on dash, etc). Most of the northwest section of 495 in Boston is a dead zone for me. Once in a blue moon I'll get a signal if I contort myself to hold the wire, maybe 1% of the time. This is true for the two different brand sedans I own (Lexus and Honda) Their windows are not coated, ASFAIK. Clearly, we could use another RDS tower to in western Boston.

It's sad because the coverage map is so much larger than the actual reception area. If I paid for my traffic subscription I would seek a refund.

I am otherwise pleased with my 755t. The mileage logging feature is brilliant.

there must be some other way to get the Navteq traffic. Did you call Garmin.

An update: Today I suspended

An update: Today I suspended the wire in the cabin by clipping it to my driver's side sun visor. That worked much better, I locked onto traffic info on RT 3 right at the MA/NH border. It's a little hillbilly, but it worked.

yup

I have done the same...with my passenger side visor. The signal is pretty spotty coming up from Providence to Boston as well. I ended up adding the Clear Channel subscription to my 755T because of the lack of Navteq coverage. I still occasionally lose coverage on the upper side of 95 and on the lower end of 128 and the expressway.
