Problem with life-time traffic

I just purchased life-time traffic last week. Installation was pretty straight-forward. However, after I turned off my unit, then used it the next day, I checked traffic and it said it was unavailable. I then checked my subscription and it said it had expired. So I entered my subscriotion code again and it worked OK until I powed off and on again. Same message, expired.
So I contacted Garmin support and they told me that they were having problems with some of the subscriptions and should have it fixed sometime next week, but that I would have to call back and get a new subscription code.
I then asked about firmware updates, for the 7XX series, and was told they were working on a new update, maybe to be released by the end of the month, since many people have complained about all the problems we've experienced.
Maybe all the complaining can pay off this time. I sure hope so.

Yep

I coulda used it in LA and SF during the past month and a half. I tried calling twice and had to hold so long that I couldn't wait any longer. So I hope it goes a lot better.

Traffic Subscription

Well, it works, as long as you enter the subscription code each time you power up.
I think I can live with it until they fix it. I just keep a print out, with the code on it with me, so I can re-enter it when I need it.
I think I will contact Garmin via email for a new code, in a week or two.
I don't like sitting on hold for 30+ minutes.

Got Same Problem

I've got what you got too. My traffic didn't work at all. After taking the code it says I have the lifetime subscription, but I would check it later and it said my subscription expired. Whats up with that? I was in San Fran for the last 5 days and was planning on using it.

Lifetime Traffic Problem

Just got off phone with GTS. The TSR that I talked to said that he had not heard of this problem. Put me on hold, came back and said that they are a "few" people with the same problem. He said that he was told that they are "hoping" to have a software patch available on Wednesday April 8th. He said to download the patch and then put in the code and it should work. He stated that if you still have problems after installing the new software then you may need to have a new code.

We'll see.

The receiver with the lifetime traffic will work with any GPS

The receiver with the lifetime traffic will work with any GPS unit that is compatible. Do you know anybody that has another unit you can connect the receiver to and check what it shows then?

I can switch my receiver with lifetime traffic between the c550 and the 760 and it works with both and shows lifetime traffic when I check it in either unit.

Have you updated the firmware in the receiver to the latest version because there was a update that allowed the lifetime traffic to function properly? When the receiver is powered and connected you can check the firmware version in the same screen that you check the units firmware version. As I recall the latest version for the 760's receiver is 5.50.

Also the lifetime subscription code can be entered using any GPS unit. If you know anyone else with a GPS unit that can use that receiver you could connect it to their's and enter the code and it should work. The code and the receiver are not dependent on or tied to any one single GPS unit.

Does that happen to the

Does that happen to the life-time subscription or the year-to-year subscription? Thanks.

Lifetime subscription

I reported the same problem last week.

See my posts in the thread:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/18004

Same problems you are having.

I drive 78 miles round trip everyday and 74 of those mile are on I-64, which is way over due for widening. Major tie-ups all the time and my GTM 20 has saved me from being stuck in a log jam many many times.

Hope they are right and the fix comes out this Wed.

The only option you have now is "Lifetime" at the same price as the 1 year used to be. $60.00

traffic coverage

Is there a coverage map for the lifetime traffic. It works in Los Angeles, but when I am in Orange County on the 91 or 55 there is no traffic icon. Seems there should be coverage in this area too.

coverage areas

Which "Lifetime traffic" subscription is on your GTM xx and which nuvi model are you using? There are two traffic data providers; Clear Channel/TTN and Navteq that both use the same GTM xx cable.

Clear Channel/TTN coverage map:

Navteq coverage map:

Also see my comparison/info write-up for the Los Angeles area here (the comparison info is about 3/4 of the way down under "Additional Info"):

My lifetime

From the sounds of all the troubles you are having, I'm glad I signed up a couple days after the offer came out, back when everyone was thinking about whether they should or not, I did and haven't had one issue with it what so ever.

What I got from the email that Garmin sent me was that there is a problem with the "Firmware" that gets installed to the GTM 20 receiver.

Now that I think about it, you may be right. Since the "Key" has an expiration date encoded in, that's way out in the future, it could very well not be able to handle it. Something like the Y2K problem.

Anybody find out if this is fixed yet?

???...a little confused

I have a Nuvi 660...how do I know which FM receiver I have?
the one that came with the unit looks like Part Number: 010-00544-01 .
It seems that the Clear Channel traffic would be best for me, but not if it will not work with my "cigarette lighter adapter ".

GTM 20

That part number is the GTM 20 traffic receiver:

Clear Channel FM traffic (lifetime subscription for about $60) will work with this.

Got a message from Garmin today.........

Said the should have it fixed and will be emailing me a new subcription code by tomorrow evening.

Re: Problem with life-time traffic

Well, finally today at 5:01 PM EDT I got an email from Garmin telling me to go to MYGarmin.com, login and click here, etc. to get new code

It worked. But why so long for the fix?

Could have used it on the way home today. The usual Friday slowdown at the Bland Blvd bottleneck turned into a 25 min delay. If I would have had FM Traffic, I could have gotten off just befoe the backup and it would have only cost me 10 more minutes. Oh well, now I'm good until the the GTM 20 goes belly up.
