Garmin power
What adapters are you talking about. 12V outlets? I don't think so. I have never seen any.

If you're talking about private aircraft I'm guessing there are FAA regulations regarding installation of electrical items. If the plane has a 12 volt electrical system and adding a standard accessory (cig lighter type) socket is permitted then you don't need an adapter.
If you're talking about commercial aircraft you can use one of the universal power sources that come with a couple of dozen connectors. One of those connectors allows you to use the power outlet installed under some business class seats and in the armrests of most first class seats. Those are not 12 volt outlets so the transformer is necessary but they are available. I run my laptop with one while flying 'if' there's a plug under the seat.
