760 & Hotfix

Can anyone say for sure whether or not the 760 has "hotfix"? Either in the unit right from the factory or if not, will a software update have hotfix in it? Need to know for sure as it could be the determining factor in whether or not I buy the 760 or the 755t. I know the 755t has hotfix plus lane assist, but I also understand the lifetime traffic is ad supported. Not sure how much I would like "walmart" ads popping up on my display. Speaking of, with regard to the 755t, do you know if you can disable the "traffic" option? and if you can, does that also disable the "lane assist" feature? hope not.

The 760 includes Hotfix (satellite prediction) either out-of-the-box or with a unit software (or firmware) update. Both GPS chipsets used on the the 760 (SiRFstarIII or MTK) will use some form of satellite prediction code.

The 7x5 series' free traffic ads are not annoying or obtrusive in the least bit. The traffic data can indeed be disabled (which will also disable the ads). You can also purchase a $60 Clear Channel Lifetime subscription which will give you traffic data without the ads using the same GTM 20 traffic receiver that comes with the 7x5 series.

Disabling traffic does NOT disable Lane Assist nor any other GPS function except for traffic data and the free ads.

Dorkus. It looks like you

Dorkus.

It looks like you have a 760 and a 765 from the info you give. I have a 760 and really like it. It has done everything I have needed.

I have a friend who is looking at either a 765 or 885. I told him my 760 has done a great job for me. Is there anything you may like better on the 765 than the 760? I know the 765 comes with Lane Assist and is capable of a few added MSN icons like Flight Times and Doppler Radar.

Thanks.

First thing that comes to mind is the way that the traffic data is presented to the user. The 765 has a traffic icon on the map screen which gives you instant access to the traffic map/incidents page. Included with the traffic data icon (when on a route with a traffic incident) is also a displayed delay time (xx minute delay).

You might also want to see my comparison between the two if you haven't already done so.

Hotfix

I thought I read something a while ago that you need to leave your GPS running for 24hrs or so for it to download satellite location data so that next time it will start up faster?

Is this related to HotFix?

The 760 behaves the same while you are on a route, although you do need to use the menu to check traffic when not.
