Why Did You Chose A TomTom?

For those of you who bought a TomTom, what were your reasons to chose TomTom over another brand?
For me, here are a few, not in any particular order and certainly not comprehensive:
1. The ability to edit maps. I was really frustrated with that limitation with my Garmin.
2. When routing an itinerary through a town to force a route to go a specific direction, TT does not try to take me to the center of town, but choses a location along the highway instead.
3. IQ routes.
4. Ease of avoiding a certain portion of a route
5. How quickly it re-routes you when you deviate from the pre-planned route (instead of trying to force you back to the original route).
I chose a TomTom
I got a new XXL 540TM the other day at a big box store holiday sale. It's my third GPS. I've had a Magellan, a Garmin, and now this TomTom. I purchased the TomTom because of the price and the free lifetime map and traffic updates. My wife puts on a few hundred miles a week and the traffic service is an absolute must.
Yesterday, we took an 500 mile loop through Florida's Cracker Trail using the itinerary planner to set a destination and multiple waypoints.
A few things in particular I found lacking in the Tomtom were the lack of detail on the map and the windshield mounting system. I'm 6'2" and my unit isn't reachable when installed on the bottom center windshield and the seat is back in my driving position. I'm going to have to look for a mounting system that will move the unit 6 inches forward. Maybe I'll look at one of those bean-bag dash mounts. Another small annoyance is with zooming out the Driving View. You can zoom out, which is helpful when you want to see a bit more of your route in real time, but the unit reverts back to it's normal view.
Other than that, the unit was very nice. It is a bit harder to see from an off angle though. The screen resolution isn't as sharp as my Garmin and the graphics seem a bit "cartoonish"
I like the Advanced Lane Guidance feature. We had to utilize parts of I-95 and I-4 during the trip and it's directions for lanes was spot on.
RE Zoom
You might check your options, I can control my zoom on my GO 930.

Lifetime Map Updates
Have a Magellan that's about 3 years old now and needs a new card cord. Magellan wants $80 US for the map updates and $25 for the new cord.
I picked up a brand new XXL 550 TM at Costco for $150. No brainer!
I'm still learning the thing but have to admit that so far, I'm fairly impressed with it. I particularly like the fact that it doesn't spend 20 minutes trying to get me to u-turn and get back on its preferred route once I've decided to use an alternate. The Live traffic and IQ routing is nice too.
