Apple just (5 minutes ago) announced the ability for developers to build turn-by-turn directions into their iPhone GPS software. Only hitch is that due to licensing problems, they will have to supply their own maps, and will not have access to iPhone's maps for the purpose of turn-by-turn directions.
Is there any hope for Garmin developing a Nuvi iPhone app? That would be sooo sweet.
POI Factory already contributed to an iphone app
Check this thread out:

Miss POI mentions her involvement in an app for the IPhone
it's sounds like miss poi is
it's sounds like miss poi is just refering to an existing red light cam app that uses the poifactory red light cam database as a source, not that she is involved in developing a garmin turn-by-turn gps app for iphone.
Space Hog
If you have to load Navteq maps you are talking about a single app that eats 2GB to 3GB of storage that is a big chunk if you use all the other features like apps, music and video
Correct

That is correct, but the fact that apps are being created and supported by our forum is news. I'm sure there won't be a shortage of map developers for the Iphone (i.e. Google Maps) either.
.
I seriously doubt Garmin will develop an app for the iPhone in the near future. Not while they are trying to develop their own Nuviphone.
Of course, once the Nuviphone flops, Garmin will probably jump on the iPhone bandwagon.
You said it GadgetGuy
I hate to say it, but I fully expect the Nuviphone to flop. Maybe Garmin will surprise me and put out a phone that can compete with the iPhones and Blackberries but I wouldn't bet on it.
Garmin will eventually need to develop apps for popular smart phones to stay viable as a company.
Eventually?

Garmin has a Blackberry Application already. I have it. It works fine... but I'd still rather have my Nuvi.
