See this post on TourGuide

See this post on TourGuide http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13904 .You can not do a true TourGuide with the Nuvi 255 but you can do some things with TourGuide in the name of the custom poi.

You can go to tools, proximity points, proximity alerts and touch change and at bottom of screen touch audio and select single tone or continuous tone if you want to reduce number of times to be alerted.

You always give good information. I appreciate it.

Possibly most importantly

Possibly most importantly (assuming you want this for a particular POI) naming the file TourGuide will allow you to have that POI be detected from every direction rather than just on the road you are on.
I find that the best feature rather than the actual making of a TourGuide.....

Right

That's the reason I wanted a tourguide file. I am missing some places because they aren't on the highway I'm travelling, although they are on the access road or within a block.

thank you for your response.

Just be aware that using

Just be aware that using TourGuide in the name will result in alerts when you are not on the same road of travel. On interstates they work well but in town you can be off on a side road and get alerted to a poi on the main rd.For example I can be traveling east on a side road like I do to go to the Sam's fuel center.A Cracker Barrel is located on a south rd and I will also be alerted. My setting is for 1 mile. The tendency is when you are alerted that you are on the same road the poi is located and you start to look for it.

Question

Charlie,

It appears to me that some of the alerts don't happen when on an Interstate and the poi has a service road address. What I am going to do is load the TourGuide in manual, with somethings have a short distance on them and others, like rest stops with a mile on them.

I will probably have to play with some and see what the best settings will be. Hopefully I can get so I don't get too many alerts, but still get those that I want to see when I'm on the road and missing now.

Thanks for your response, and thanks to all the others.

You mention making a TourGuide for Rest Area POI.
IF you are using the "Rest Areas Combined" POI file it is not necessary to make the POI file into a TourGuide as the coordinates are set to the actual entrance to the Rest Area. In fact, it may be an annoyance to you as you will get alerts for any Rest Areas in the opposite direction of travel since they will be within the radius of the TourGuide distance.

Just my suggestion !!!!!!
