Wal Mart has

the low end Tom Tom for under $100 now. Is it worth buying one to try it out?

Sure, buy one and try it.

That's easy for me to say as it isn't my money.

Just remember it is hard to compare two units if they don't have the same features and options except on the most basic of levels. You will be expecting the Tom-Tom to operate the same as, and provide the same results as, your primary unit and there are differences.

But I would be interested in your impressions as would be others that don't use their units.

Which one is it?

I bought my low end (TT 125) for $80 from Staples ($100 - $20 rebate), and that came with a free TT case as well.

Check out a factory refurb

Back in Dec, I got an XL-S factory refurbished from Amazon for about $130. TomTom warranty was still a year, and they gave me the latest maps via their maps guarantee.

Make sure you get it directly from Amazon and not marketplace.

I've seen great deals for 720s too...

If it's not what you want or need, return it. Wal Mart is very easy on returns.
