Will POI Files Store On my SD Card Automatically

Nuvi 200

(1.) I have not installed a SD card yet but if I do will it allow for me to store more poi's on it?

(2.) Will the garmin POI loader know to load to the SD card or will it try to load to the internal memory like usual?

How much internal memory is allowed on the 200 so I can see if I am getting close?

Sorry for all of the questions, have to get them out of my system. Tried searching old post but it is not clear to me yet.

Regards, again

1. Yes.

2. You will need to manually select the SD card as the DESTINATION for the Custom POIs when you run POI Loader.

When you connect your nuvi to your computer, it enters USB Mass Storage mode and will show up as a drive on your computer. You can navigate to the drive and see how much space is there.

The Custom POIs are loaded into a file named POI.GPI. You can examine that file and see how big it is.

Typically, you can get approximately 8,000 - 10,000 Custom POI locations per megabyte of space.

Thanks for the info. I have

Thanks for the info.

I have 453 mb of internal memory left on the unit. But seams like I read somewher that Garmin might have restriction on how lagre my .gpi file be to arond 1 or 2mb when storing to internal memory?

Or is that not correct and I could possible grow my gpi file to around 453mb on my current internal memory in theory?

Space

I don't think you have to worry. Load a bunch of poi files and see how much the .gpi file grows, you will find that you probably will not come close to running out of space. Another thing you can do is rename the poi.gpi file to something else.gpi. then when you run poiloader it will not overwrite the file.
