Is SOX.EXE Safe or Possible Infested Malware Upon Some Downloads?

Wanting to get some wav files up and running but per my understaning I need to load the sox.exe file into the Garmin POI Loader.

I can handle doing this (Garmin Nuvi 200) and realize it is necessary to get my wav files to actually work with my proximity alerts.

(1.) Is this file safe, I see some things upon google searches (bleepingcomputer.com) that reference this as a file that could be malware or a trojan?

(2.) If this is a safe file why cant it be found to download from Garmin or where can I go to rest assured that I do not get a corrupted copy.

Thanks

No Problem

I have had no problems with it. I use Trend Micro to scan all my files for viruses and malware.

Just in case here is a

Just in case here is a outline on how to do the wav files.

a. Download the latest PoiLoader file at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
b. Download Sox Exe at http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip .
c. After un-zipping Sox Exe file place it in your Garmin folder where the PoiLoader exe file is located on the computer.
d. The wav file for alerts will be named the same as the CSV or GPX file except for the extensions.
e. You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say or use a program to convert mp3 files to wav. When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono

?

What does sox.exe do? I use a Mac and just put a wav in my poi folder and it loads fine? I haven't used the poi loader in the windows side since I got a 260.

This is from Gary's Garmin

This is from Gary's Garmin Nuvi tricks manual.

ATTENTION MAC OWNERS: Don Allen writes, "For what it's worth, I'm successfully loading WAV files onto my Nuvi 200 using POI loader version 2.0.2.1 Beta WITHOUT having SOX.EXE present at all. This on a Mac running OSX 10.5.5. Sweet. I'm creating my .WAV files at that AT&T Labs website that creates voices. Maybe they're already in the proper format and need nothing done to them to work on the nüvi?"
