Want 360 Proximity Not Redlight Inline Alert

I am getting my feet wet with Loding poi's. I am fairly comfortable with loading but alerts are a different matter.

I can load manual, automatic and or place redlight in the title of those I want to alert with no problem.

What I am trying to do (Garmin Nuvi 200) is set up alerts when I am in the proximity from any direction not just when I am on the same road of the poi. Tried "TourGuide" in the poi title line but did not work unless I did something wrong, beleive Garmin 200 does not support tourguide.

Is there something I can place in the title line of the files that will give me 360 degree warning.

Regards,

P.S do you have to place the "_" underscore between words in the file titles or are spaces acceptable.

If you haven't read this, it

If you haven't read this, it maybe of use...

edit: Also are you using .wav files with sox.exe? This is necessary with 2xx series

Thanks, for the info. I had seen this post and that is where I got the "TourGuide" idea to solve my problem but it did not work.

Loaded "TourGuide" into a title of a poi but it did not alert.

Think my nuvi 200 does not support "TourGuide" but still need soemone to confirm this. Or maybe I loaded "TourGuide" into the title wrong.

Thanks, again

I have read

That TourGuide works with all nuvi's that play mp3 files, but I had also read the same thing regarding verbal proximity alerts prior to seeing a post about sox.exe. You may be correct about the 200 not accepting TourGuides...

Edit: from a different site: arrow http://developer.garmin.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=138

Thus it appears it does not work... sad

Sounds like I am stuck with inline alerts for now. Someday I might upgrade to a higer end unit with mp3 and then the tourgude command will work.

Unless soemone comes up with another command besides "redLight" that I can insert into the title line of the file.

Thanks for your assistance and quick responce.

The price of 7xx units is

The price of 7xx units is approaching the price of 2xx units so when you feel the need to update maps you may also just as well upgrade to a new gps...

TourGuides made easy

Check out this approach, I think it is an easy and convenient way for what you need.

The concept is basically to extend the use of the csv format to make it very easy to use the nuvi TourGuide functionality.

In a nutshell, this is what you have to do:

Create a text (.txt) file from your csv file, add a 5th parameter to indicate the proximity distance you want, a 6th parameter to indicate the folder containing sound, icon or image files to be used, then converting the txt file to gpx and loading it.

According to this information in this thread:-

TourGuides do work with the 200. I don't have one myself, so I can't confirm it.

You probably don't get the full functionality, but the effect you want (the radial alert) should work.

(Specifically, you probably don't get the menu item to control how they play and I assume you don't get the Activation Time "Stop/Start" controls either).
