cold today

really cold this morning.
Too cold for skiing.... then Thursday is too warm for skiing.

AROUND?

It seems like it has been a long time since Ive been here. I have been very busy trying to get my parents ready to go visit my brother and his wife who are presently serving as missionaries in Bangladesh. They left yesterday, a tiring sixteen hour flight to Dubai, then a six hour lay over, then another six hour flight to Dhaka, the capital, then a six hour drive to where my brother is located. Talk about the other side of the world.....

Going back home for a few days.

I wanted to let you guys know that I will be going home for a funeral this weekend and I will only be checking the forums while I am gone.

Jon will be staying here and holding down the fort. I will be gone from Friday to Sunday evening.

I will be checking emails and responding to things that need my immediate attention.

The funeral is for my grandmother that passed away a few days before Christmas. My family decided to wait until the weather was better for traveling before they held her service. She lived to be 97 years old, she had a really long full life.

I hope that everyone has a great weekend while I am gone.

Miss POI

Sorry

I am sorry for you loss. Just think what she has seen in her 97 years. My prayers are with you.

re: Grandmother

My deepest condolences.

It's great though that she lived to be 97.

Snowflakes

The biggest snowflakes I've ever seen here this morning. An inch or two in length.

Now it has settled back down to tiny flakes.

Am planning on going out and doing chores tomorrow morning before the next big storm hits tomorrow afternoon.

re: Grandmother

My deepest condolences also. Have a safe trip. Your leaving the group in good hands.

It's starting to look more and more like one GIANT LAKE around these parts! I was surrounded by water on my way into work this morning. Kind of creepy driving in the dark with water on both sides of the road at the same level as the road. They say more rain for the rest of the week as well......OH JOY, maybe I should get that wetsuit out of the closet?

Please send some of your excess water to us here if Florida. We are in the middle of a continuing drought.

Do you have a LONG STRAW?

Chicago

Drove from Columbus OH to Chicago IL and back this week. GPS was great, until I got into the "loop."

Sometimes I lost satellite/accuracy around some tall buildings, and sometimes I was routed under the El, and lost everything.

But once in the clear I was always directed to my
final destination.

It made a nerve wracking trip less so for me.

Why we have GPS units...

My wife left for Columbus (OH) today to attend a conference tomorrow. She took "Jack" with her not for anyplace she is going to down there, but for the trip back.

Tomorrow evening we're having dinner with friends at their house, and my wife will meet us there directly from her return trip to Cleveland. Even though they live only FOUR miles from our house, my wife has never driven there and is concerned she might get lost trying to find their house. I've always been behind the wheel and she never really paid attention to the directions since it's such a short ride. So she asked me to put their address into Jack and she'll let him guide her there.

Now that's what technology is all about! laugh out loud

Old Fashioned Grandmothers

Miss POI,

You were lucky to have your Grandmother live so long. She was witness to so much of our nation's history, including two world wars, the Great Depression, the world before and after television/automobiles/airplanes/space travel--and supermarkets. I am a lot older than you, of a grandmotherly age myself, but I can only hope that I will live to see 97--WITHOUT witnessing another World War, the landing of little green spacemen, and teleportation. I don't want Scotty to BEAM ME UP ANYWHERE.

It was always my two grandmothers who were my example, not my mother or aunts. I hope that my granddaughters (no grandsons) can find inspiration for their lives in my example too. My generation has a lot to live up to, they made American women of your grandmother's generation super strong, tempered by difficult but simpler times. It is good for you to honor her passing.

Tiger Woods came back just in time to help Tucson's economy

The Accenture Match Play golf tournament is being played about 8 miles from me. They had been very concerned about how ticket sales were going to go. What a boost to ticket sales when Tiger announced he was going to play.

He is a one-man stimulus package for golf tournaments. Now we just have to hope that he and Mickelson continue to win and that will keep the galleries full and that will provide a lot of money for the local charities that benefit from it.

Good news for the boaters and shippers and lawn watering

Good news for the boaters and shippers.

I remember the last time that happened, the docks were under water and folks had to build extensions above what they had already so they didn't have to wade through water leaving boats that are docked.

Lots of snow in the region this year, and a abundance of fresh water in the GreatLakes.

Spring Coming?

They upgraded the Winter Storm Warning last night to a Blizzard Warning, which just ended a half hour ago. Now they have a Winter Weather Advisory until 5 pm.

The temps supposed to go down to -20 tonight and the wind chill is much below that.

Snow likely tomorrow night with moderate accumulations possible.

Spring is going to come here one of these years, but it doesn't look like any time soon.

I just got back

I just got back from snowmobiling. We had 8 inches of fresh snow last night, here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. There is nothing prettier than being on a trail with fresh snow, looking at the snow clinging to the boughs of pine trees. I had to take some pictures today!

As far as the lake levels go, remember that last year Lake Superior was 18 inches low, so the level raising is good news.

Sad, Happy, and Advice -

Miss POI - Sorry to hear about your grandmother. My great grandmother was 97 when she passed. Hope you have a safe trip.

JM - Happy 40th. May you have many more.

Everyone else - I worked in a Cancer Treatment Facility Pharmacy for many years and can tell you things will NOT get better if you ignore or put the diagnosis off until later. I've seen a lot of patients who got early diagnosis/detection and will live long, happy lives because of their timely actions.

Take good care of yourselves and your loved ones. There have been far too many who have lost their lives because they waited or were afraid to find out.
