Any 755T owners?

I am considering up grading to a new 755T. Features wise it appears to be perfect for me. I am wondering if we have any 755T owners on the forum. If so, can you please offer your thoughts and impressions. I am wondering if it has the same quirks as the 760.

I have 765T and believe 755

I have 765T and believe 755 is quite identical to 765 except for bluetooth. 755 does not has bluetooth rest is all identical to 765.

The problems on both units, I believe are identical too. Reboots, touch screens etc. If you live in big city or plan to visit big cities, then lane assist is very useful feature. The directional arrows is a cool feature.

Former 755T Owner

I had a 755 and ended up upgrading to the 765. I really liked both units. Never had any trouble on either with reboots. I did have problems connecting to WebUpdater when firmware 3.0 came out until the most recent update 3.3 which seems to be working ok. The screen is a little sensitive to where you touch.

I like the 7x5 series a lot, but for the prices you can get a 750 or 760 right now, they're probably a better deal.

Thanks for you input. I am waiting for the prices to go down before I buy mine and I can't wait. My son wants me to get the 775t for the European maps but I am not sure that the extra money is really worth it. Anyone have an opinion on that?

My thoughts on the 755t

I have owned my 755t since mid December and I love it. Although others complained of reboots, I rarely get them. I own a Bluetooth headset which I’ve grown accustoms to over the years and decided to save a few bucks with the 755t. Most of the problems I had with the 755t have been related to a map update 2009.11 which were solved with the new software update 3.30. In the two months of using this GPSr in and around NYC. I’m very pleased with it.

Love my 775T

I've only had it a short time but I love it. I had a 680, which sucked mainly because it didn't have routing capability. I put my MSN reciever on it and so far it's working great. Will come in real handy with all the business travel I do and routing customers to go see homes when I'm doing real estate.

It would depend of course on how often you go to Europe. They charge quite a bit more for the European maps. If you are going to Europe even a few times and worried about finding your way through cities it might be worth it.

One option would be to rent a GPS if you don't go often. It's rather expensive but may be an alternative.

775T with European Map

If you plan to travel to European and use it alot then you should get the 775T. Otherwise just get the 765T with bluetooth or 755T without bluetooth. That save you $$$. Every penny does count today.

Other thought: I lived in some European countries before for couple years and I dont't need a GPS to go somewhere, and I don't need the car too. Just take bus and train and that much more convenience and cheaper.

Smorgasbord of Garmin model numbers/features

I can't think of a perfect category for this post, so I'm writing it here due to the discussion over different models.

Can anyone explain the nuances of ALL the different Garmin model numbers/letters? Like the difference between the leading digit, versus the trailing digit being a 0 or a 5, and some having a T at the end? I'd love to know what features each one has and why their price points differ so much, etc.

In particular, I'm curious about my nüvi 760. If I remember my product documentation correctly, I believe I only get three months of free traffic updates. Then I'm not sure what to do. Don't some models come with lifetime traffic updates? And for others can't you buy an antenna that carries free lifetime traffic updates for the life of the antenna? It all seems so confusing!

Please help, and thanks in advance for the clarification!

For you, you have a traffic receiver. Its in the vehicle power cord. After 3 months you can go the http://www.garmin.com/traffic and purchase lifetime traffic (FM Traffic) for $60 USD.

Traffic is free

Traffic is free with the 7x5T units. There is not a $60 charge for Navteq traffic. There is a $60 charge to add Clear Channel traffic.

760 not 765T

He's got a 760. That comes with 3 months free, then one time payment of $60 to upgrade to lifetime.

I can wait.

I probably won't make a purchase before this coming Holiday season. Maybe by then the bugs will be out and the price will fall.

Newer 755T Owner

I have had mine for a little over one month. Other then a few reboots I have had no real problem with it. I own a Jawbone Bluetooth Headset and did not want to pay the extra for the 765T. I use Audible books while I drive and other then constant reroutes, a Garmin issue overall in my view, I really do like the unit. I have used in Milwaukee, Chicago, Minneapolis and Des Moines so far and the LANE ASSIST is nice and the fact that it actually shows the number of lanes and which when to be in. The free traffic works ok routed me once in Minneapolis differently then I thought it should to find out that the way I would have taken had major accident and major time delays. I would recommend it!

I think they also use:
x5x = standard model
x6x = w/Bluetooth & Traffic
x7x = w/Europe Maps
x8x = w/Lane Assist

I believe x8x = MSN Direct, as all of the 7X5T units have Lane Assist

I don't use it for driving so much (I also prefer public transportation. But I use it for walking around so I can find places and not get lost.

My new 755T

I just got a 755T to replace my Nuvi 350.
Of course I'm still getting used to it and find several things I haven't solved. I don't find a way to turn on the display of upcoming cross streets.
I find battery life when not connected to the car to be so low as to be unuseable on a hike.
The image on the larger screen is nice but detail is also quite a bit smaller.
In the 3-D view you seem to arrive at a point before the display shows that you have (by 2 to 3 seconds) I reverted to top-down view and the voice cues are adequately in advance of arrival.
The connecting cable is larger (diameter)and more difficult to deal with than I would like.
My unit gets quite warm (almost uncomfortable hot)
I don't know if that's normal or my unit has a problem.

Battery Replacement

The battery life on my Nuvi 755T was always horrible. Then it got to a point where it didn't seem to really charge fully.
Purchased a new Polymer battery with the tool kit on Ebay, about $16.00 ($3.00 cheaper without the tool kit, but I think it's well worth the extra $3 for the tools) and replaced battery in 15 minutes.
You should watch the replacement on Youtube so you know what to expect. The battery was extremely hard to pry out of the unit compared to the video but at least you know you're not doing anything wrong, and I found it easier to re-attach the wires and speaker before placing the new battery back into the case on the glue strip. Battery is now lasting longer than when the unit was brand new.

755T Great Start!

I currently have the nuvi 755T and enjoy it a ton. I receive traffic updates and I am now very comfortable going to uncharted places. All I need is a new charging dock. Can someone direct me to a site or Ebay listing where I can buy one for cheap?

Cradle?

Are you talking about the cradle that the 755T snaps into? If yours is no longer working correctly, try calling Garmin. They have been know to provide replacements even for units out of warranty. Otherwise you can find them on eBay and several other online retailers.

My wife got me a 755t 2 years ago, and i like it very much. I'm a trucker so I use it for for. traffic can be misleading. For a trucker or someone who travels a lot it's great.

Didn't work for me, quirky as heck, upgraded to the 765T. Works like a charm

765T

Bought mine refurbished $125, no problems updating and adding POI's.

.

I've owned the 765 since it's initial release and it's a great unit despite it's touchscreen issues which have been corrected by the latest v4.0 firmware update. It's too bad it took Garmin so long in correcting this glaring issue since I'm sure many potential buyers were turned away after reading all the bad reviews of the unit due to this issue.

Got my 755 off Amazon and its worked fine except for 2 issues. One is sometimes when switching screens it seems to delay in the switch. This is on the menu screens only and only a very brief pause. Probably would not think anything about it except my 255 does not have this issue.

The other issue was on a recent trip to Cleveland it did not want to acquire a signal, I posted in detail about his in another thread. I plan on getting an external antenna per the suggestion of some others on this site. This was the only time this has happened so I'm not real concerned about it. Overall its a really good unit.

I would buy this unit again.

Try a hard reset. That may well fix the problem. Just back up your data first.

I've only had to do it once so far to fix a minor lag, and it worked.
