Topo maps for Nuvi

Do a search here on POI Factory as it's been discussed often before for nuvis and other Garmins.

I have Garmin's Topo 2008 (or other free more detailed topo map) on a SD card in my nuvi all the time.

Note that for many states and other areas, free Garmin-compatible maps topo maps are available. If you do go with Garmin's Topo 2008 (with 1:100k-equiv. detail), remember that it's unlike City Navgator and other maps in that it's not locked to a specific device. So if you have a nuvi and a handheld for hiking, one purchased copy of Topo 2008 can put maps on both units.

And I haven't had occasion to use it as much as I thought I would. I thought that it would be like the US Geological Survey topo maps and show everything, but alas not so... It doesn't show all bike trails, buildings etc...

Edit: Also you can't load the entire topo map into a nuvi and use it. I managed to get it all loaded onto a large SD card but then my nuv760 couldn't access it for some reason.. I think there is a limit on the number of maps that can be loaded...

i have 2008 topo on my 255w sd card and works good has good detail and the right info.cant wait to go up to the mountains and try it out
