Can you download Garmin's POIs and modify them and reload them?

I have a Nuvi 2000 with maps 2009 loaded, however, the POI's did not update when the new map downloaded. So I have POI's to places that either no longer exist or never existed at the coordinates listed. I want to remove these old coordinates and install correct ones without creating a custom POI folder. I'm interested to know if anyone has done this, How did they do it, and what were their experiences.

Garmin created POIs?

If you're referring to the the POIs that come included & built into the map update(s), those are not modifiable in any way as they come embedded within the map data. Only Garmin can change these.

That conclusion probably isn't right. The POI's probably DID update, but the latest version available is still WAY out of date.
But no, you can't change them.

modifying the map program

It can probably be changed but would require someone who can get into the guts of the file. Unless you really know what you are doing I wouldn't recommend it

Thanks

Thanks All, It would have been been nice to be able to download the favorites you stored in your Garmin.

It is the built-in POIs that you cannot edit. The file named current.gpx contains a copy of your favorites and can be downloaded, edited, and/or converted to custom-POIs.
