Speed limits needed for blank entries in the speed camera file

Hello everyone, I have a favor to ask. I would really like to feature the speed limits for our Speed Cameras.

So if everyone could take a moment to download the newest speed camera file that I just posted and look to see if the locations in your area have the speed limit listed.

If you are in an area where the speed is not listed, please let me know what the speed is for that camera and I will get it posted in next week's update.

If you are not sure what the intersection or street name is send me a note and I will send you back that info.

I really appreciate this.

Miss POI

Thanks Bubbapoi and Dconsolla

Thanks go out to Bubbapoi for sending me the New Orleans speed limits and also to Dconsolla for sending me the limits for 5 of the MD locations.

Great job guys!!!

School Zone

I find entries in MD which are listed as School Zone or School Zone Speed Camera which are not actual cameras.

Some I checked by personally driving by are only School Zones, which I believe defeat the purpose of this POI file.

Do you want me to flag them back to you?

You may find that they bring portable camera units to those sites on occasion.

....and

...which is a subject already discussed in a different trend. Portable cameras on vans or otherwise, as well as police cruisers, are impossible to track effectively on a GPS device.

If that's the case with these non-existent School Zone cameras, I'd vote to remove them from the file. I think the Speed Camera POI file should only contain fixed cameras.

Mobile traps should be tracked with radar detectors on states that allow so.

I would think they would

I would think they would come out with a Garmin that also is a radar detector. Wouldn't that be cool?

I went through the CSV file

I went through the CSV file but it doesn't look like there are any for Oregon. I will see if I can find some and send them to you.

?

Yeah, I thought both Portland and Beaverton had speed cameras.

oh they do, I am just not

oh they do, I am just not sure where they are located. Other than driving around looking for them, not sure how to find them.

Red Light Cameras

We have quite a few locations from Oregon, but they all are Red Light Cameras and not Speed Cameras. Check Red-light Cameras file.

What "speed" for cameras in school zones with variable limits?

I noticed that some of the Montgomery County speed cameras are located in school zones where the speed limit is lower (e.g., 25 mph instead of 35 mph) during certain morning and afternoon periods. At what speed does the camera trigger - does it change with the time of day?

For example, if I was driving 36 in the 35 zone during non-school hours, the camera would not trigger since it is less than 10 mph over the speed limit. What happens if I go 36 mph, but it is during a time when the speed limit is lowered to 25? Will the camera now be triggered?

I agree - fixed cameras only

I agree - I think there should only be fixed cameras in the file.

Most of the Rockville, MD entries are "Mobile Speed Cameras". One morning last week on my way to work, I drove some of the locations indicated in the POI file, and none had fixed cameras installed. One of the locations did have a mobile van in service, however.

I can confirm that there are fixed camera pairs along Montgomery Ave and Wooton Parkway in the City of Rockville.
