Hello:
I have noticed a problem recently when using my GTM-20 traffic receiver (Clear Channel) and my nuvi 760. It will put up the yellow sign with a traffic delay along my route. When I tap the symbol to get more info, it shows a problem on one of the roads I am/will be driving but ON A SECTION THAT IS NOT PART OF MY ROUTE. Just to be clear. Lets say that I'm moving from one highway to another. I will be traveling North on this 2nd highway. It will display an alert for problems on the 2nd highway that are well South of the place I'm joining that highway. Hope that makes sense. I'm using the latest 4.60 firmware.
Have any other nuvi 760 owners noticed this traffic quirk
It makes it very annoying to see 10 minute delay displayed and then find out it isn't impacting the route you are traveling. This is when navigating to a specific destination, not just viewing the map.

This has been an issue for some time
With my 760 and an MSN receiver this was a common problem. I would take one expressway east, and then another south. The traffic alert would tell me that there was traffic ahead on my route, when in actuality it was 3 or 4 miles North of where I was getting on at. Not sure why it does that, but I got used to it and just ignored it.
Traffic notification bug
I'm a new owner of 265WT. I have seen similar behavior with the "free" traffic service that came with it. The problem with this is that it makes the traffic icon an unreliable indicator of traffic condition, and forces you to push buttons to figure out if the problem is real, probably while you're driving.
Traffic is Traffic. Did you
Traffic is Traffic. Did you ever consider that it's reporting all the traffic conditions that are being reported? If it's actually on your route, the GARMIN software will reroute you.
The way you guys are describing it, if you had no route loaded, it should never give you a traffic report.
I submit, the unit is acting exactly as designed. There is no bug here.

I may not have been clear
Hi phranc
I may not have been clear. This happens to me when I'm driving under a Route and under no circumstances would I go south rather than north. it is showing me traffic that is NOT on my programmed route

I haven't seen this
And I get a lot of traffic reports.

I saw it often
And yes you get use to it.
say I'm traveling north on the 405 and then west on the 101.
It would show traffic as if I was going to continue north on the 405, and that was not on my route.
It's these changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes Nothing remains quite the same With all of our running and all of our cunning If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane
The bad traffic area overlaps your route
Hi phranc

I have used both traffic receivers, and they both do this. It appears to me that the "bad" area overlaps my route in some fashion, so it triggers the alert. Tapping the info feature shows the text description talking about a junction that is actually a couple miles behind me but the red slow traffic arrow extends through the section of road where I got on the expressway. The worst of the bad traffic might not actually be on my route, but I am still affected. I haven't seen any alerts come up that were really too far away to have no effect on my particular route.
If you were listening to the
If you were listening to the traffic reports on your local station, would they only give you the traffic on the road you are on, or for the whole area?
The traffic reports you receive on your GPS are the same way. They are not route specific. The GPS has no way to tell the traffic sender where your route is.
The GPS receiver displays ALL TRAFFIC. Not just the traffic on your route.
Again, if you had no route calculated, under your conditions you would never receive any traffic at all.
I repeat, there is no bug, the unit is operating as designed.

There is something up
It happens when a route is selected.
And it tells you there will be a delay on your route.
It happen to me several times at the 101 / 405.
And I had plenty of time to look at it
If you have ever driven thru the Sepulvada Pass,
you know what I mean.

not route specific?
hmmm...that's strange because I'm in the Dallas area and just today there were over 20 active incidents. Because I was using a route, it did not alert me to any of these incidents. So, yes, it is route specific to receive an alert on a route.
Yes, you can still view all incidents manually, but no alert will be displayed.
I understood this user is using a route and is receiving an alert that is not on his route. This is not normal.
Not sure about your area, but in the Dallas area, TTN traffic indicates the affected road and a cross street (I-35 / Royal) or a section of the roadway (I-35 from Royal to Loop 12). So if my route did not include that section, I would NOT be alerted.
Haven't seen that
I have a 760 & GTM-20 and I can't say I've seen that behavior. When I tap the delay icon, it certainly shows traffic on roads that aren't on my route sometimes, but it always displays a delay that IS on my route as well.
Same thing here for the
Same thing here for the GTM-25.Only see traffic problems for the route I am traveling on.Yellow icon traffic is slightly congested and red for traffic is heavily congested or stopped. If a severe traffic delay occurs on the route it will automatically recalculates the route.Do have the option to view all traffic delays in the area off the route by clicking on icon and viewing the traffic map.

Anyone else in SF Bay Area seen this behavior
I really don't recall seeing this until fairly recently (doesn't mean it didn't happen before). I just want to be clear what it is doing. lets say that I'm driving NORTH on a stretch of highway. It will show a delay (for example 3 minutes). When I tap on the delay icon the ONLY delay listed is on that same road 15 miles SOUTH of where I am going and in the opposite direction from my direction of travel.

not fixable.
they assign codes to highways, when the codes get tripped the GPS adds that as an alert if your route crosses the flagged highway within the radius assigned. direction of travel is irrelevant.
voila - bug.

"The GPS has no way to tell
"The GPS has no way to tell the traffic sender where your route is."
Hugh? Who cares if the traffic sender knows your route? The GPS knows your route, and IDEALLY should not flag problems if they don't impact you.
"Again, if you had no route calculated, under your conditions you would never receive any traffic at all."
On the contrary, if no route is chosen then of course it would provide indication of traffic problems in your general area.
