GPS in my phone - Inconceivable

I just got a new HTC Pro phone and it has a built in GPS and navigation software. The phone actually did a good job, however I will NOT be giving up my Garmin. It may be a quick way to navigate around Universal Studios or Disney, but driving down the highway across country, I think not.

Dittos for GPS on a Blackberry

Garmin's Blackberry App would do in a pinch - but does not hold a candle to my Nuvi 750.

Check out Garmin Mobile XT.

Check out Garmin Mobile XT. Awesome piece of software, but it's my backup, in my HTC Touch. My Nuvi 760 will always be my main, until another Nuvi replaces it down the road.

Still it's good to know, that no matter where I am, who I am with, I'll always have a GPS on me at all times.

I agree ...

GPS on my phone sounds like a good backup, but definitely not a good primary. Form factor and screen size has a lot to do with it.

Inconceivable - You Keep Using That Word

Ah - from one of my wife's and my favorite movies.

I had used the Telenav application on my Nextel Direct Connect phone a few years ago, and refuse to pay the $10 per month for this "service" on my Windows Mobile Smart Phones.

While Google Mobile Maps and Windows Live Search Mobile work well for some things - I, too, would not give up a real GPS unit.

That said - for a Windows Mobile Device - three products that I have used that I find work well (in their own respects) are:
Garmin Mobile XT for Smartphones,
ALK CoPilot Live 7, and
TomTom Navigator 6.

Other software for "Pocket PC" smart phones like iGuidance from iNav Corp and TeleType and a couple others I've used are ok too...

Of course, while the price is comparable between each product, and they are feature rich; as LSchwabe has noted - form factor and screen size make a big difference to me.

The other good side to this is if you have a SmartPhone with built in GPS, it can reduce a piece of equipment while you're traveling.

It's all about personal preferences - if everyone wanted the same thing - then the Apple Mac ad from 1984 would have failed. surprised

And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .

Classic advertisement

Perhaps if

Verizon didn't charge extra for the service with a monthly subscription I could find a use for the GPS feature but for now or until they do.
I say No Thanks

Garmin Mobile xt

I am a big fan of Garmin Mobile XT
again not as good as a regular GPS but it has helped me many times and no monthly phone charges like telenav. I find my Mobile XT a bit slow picking up the satellites but still I wouldn't be caught without it!

Accuracy on smart phone

Can anyone who has installed Mobile XT on a smart phone provide any information about its' accuracy? I have a Nokia E71 that has built in GPS and it reports that most of the locations I find, are accurate within 80 to 1,000 meters (forgot to switch measurements to US) using Google Maps.

Thanks

The Garmin Mobile XT on my Pharos GPS Phone 600 is very accurate.
