Garmin Software 4.8 for Nuvi 2x5 released

Just updated my new-style 260w (which has many of the 2x5 features) and found that firmware Version 4.80 was available.

Supposedly included the new Garmin Ecoroute ... but, unfortunately, even though my Garmin updated to firmware 4.80 ... there was no Ecoroute feature.

Oh well.

But if you have a Garmin 2x5 ... you might check to see if yours will update to 4.80 with the Ecoroute feature.

EcoRoute is there for 265wt

EcoRoute is there. Perhaps the profile needs to be created first? Note that EcoRoute replaces the Trip Computer "total time" readout with "fuel cost".

I'm glad to hear that

I'm glad to hear that Ecoroute is there for the 2x5 series with firmware 4.80 via the webupdater.

Even though my new style 260w shares some of the 2x5 features (where am I, turn arrow upper left), alas, ECOROUTE is not there ... even after I updated to 4.80.

Ecoroute not showing on "new style 260"

I am in the same boat as "cbwatts" ! Updated to 4.8 and no Ecoroute. Going to redownload 4.8 and make sure I don't have to download some of the extra files.

Worth a try !!

Whay can't they add ecoroute

Whay can't they add ecoroute to all their models? Sure would be sweet on my 680.

There's likely not enough processing power on the older units.

My new style 260w has the same processing power as the 255w. Garmin must have just chosen to not enable the ECOROUTE feature on 260w's ...

Had anybody updated their 255w to firmware 4.80? I'm wondering if they got ECOROUTE.

Go to

Go to http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/services/ecoRoute#f... and on left side of screen click on one of the Garmin series. It will show what models it will work with.

Thanks Charlie!

Thanks Charlie. I see where Garmin says the 255w can be upgraded to ECOROUTE ... and my 260w isn't listed.

But I wonder if anyone has succesfully upgraded their 255w to 4.80 firmware to get ECOROUTE.

I was kinda hoping that since my new style 260w is closer to a 255w than the old style 260w (has where am I, upper left corner turn arrow, multiple via points, etc)(features Garmin says aren't on a 260w), that I would slip in under the wire and get ECOROUTE.

Maybe some of the 200 series

Maybe some of the 200 series users can start posting with their results.I have noticed other users reporting upgrades that they didn't expect.

4.8 Upgrade

I just upgraded to 4.8, had a problem after I disconected my usb cord. My unit stayed in the loading mode for 10 min. Called Garmin they told me to push in reset dot on the bottom edge. Unit shut off, I it turned back on everythng worked. She told me that the ecoRoute will only work on the 2x5 & 7x5 models. I tried my 260, no upgrade

Paul..... Nuvi 765T

paul>>260 no upgrade Thanks

paul>>260 no upgrade

Thanks Paul. My "new-style" 260w is running firmware 4.80 after upgrading last night (but no ECOROUTE). There are two versions of 260's out there. The newer version runs the same firmware as the 2x5 ... but garmin must have locked out the ECOROUTE.

Did firmware 4.80 put ECOROUTE on your 255w? How's is running.

Less fuel example.

I was playing around with the settings for the ecoRoute.I hit go to for VA from Fl.Using fastest time it showed 803.8 miles with arrival time of 11:59 pm .Change to less fuel setting after recalculating.Unit showed 786.3 miles with arrival time 12:45 am.Fastest time did not have any tolls but less fuel did.

Another satisfied 265wt

Another satisfied 265wt owner. Updated this morning and the ecoRoute works great. Not sure about the game feature since I haven't tried it yet. But I'm a little concerned that some of the more "challenged" drivers may take the game a little too serious and put a score above safety.

Im wondering if the ecoroute

Im wondering if the ecoroute is in "test" stages with the 2x5 and 7x5 series and if all goes well then they release it to more models...

Just updated and anxious to check it out...

Ecoroute

Anyone noticed that it is taking longer to acquire satellite and Slower Screen Refresh rate after updating 2x5 (255w) to newest firmware (4.8) which adds Ecoroute ?

Thanks.

I haven't.One of the first

I haven't.One of the first things that impressed me with the 265 with hot fix was how much faster I got the satellite fix.

Has anyone had the mapping issue

with the conflicting arrows as described on the page below?

http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=107997...

Yes!

I did notice it but wrote it off as a map glitch. Now I'm not so sure. Reporting to Garmin now.

Garmin Ecoroute

can you remove Garmin Ecoroute if you don't want it
the nuvi 255w is limited on what it can do compared to nuvi 350 the only new function is trip log which is like using bread crumbs

mark

I see..

Can you let us know what they tell you, and does it occur often? I got one of these today and am curious.

Thanks!

Conflicting Arrows & Erratric magenta line

I posted the original message on GPSPassion that describes the conficting arrows issue. I have also experienced the erratic magenta line looping out and back. What I have found so far is this:

o It only happens just before the destination.
o It's inconsistent. Doesn't happen all of the time, even on the same route.
o It started after upgrading to 4.80 & NT2009.11
maps.

At the time, it was not clear which upgrade was responsible. However, recently, another poster on GPSPassion who experienced similar problems was not using NT2009.11 maps and rolled back firmware to 4.60 and claims the problems disappeared.

Even though I don't consider this a critical issue, I decided to roll back to 4.60 just to see what happens. Lost EccoRoute, but I can live without it until they issue a fix for 4.80.

Dan (NUVI 255W)

Nearly everytime.

The pictures I posted over on GPS passion are near my house (hence the blocked out street info). It happens nearly every time I route to home.

I have seen similar on my 760

My 760 doesn't have the "next turn" arrow feature, but I just recently approached an intersection and noticed that the display showed the magenta line showing a left turn while the white arrow showed going straight ahead. The green bar and spoken guidance said to turn left, which was correct.

255w and 4.80

No problem here. I've been on 4.80 for about a month and haven't noticed big differences, except for ecoRoute. Eco challenge is a bit gimmicky, but I like their estimate of fuel cost every time you bring up a new destination.

Has Garmin acknowledged this issue?

Asking anyone who has reported this. I can't imagine they wouldn't fix an issue like that.

wondering myself

I am wondering about that myself. It seems like a major glitch and should be fixed by GARMIN ASAP.

I am waiting for new update to come out..... I hope they make Ecoroute optional when updating the unit software.

DL

No change

I have not noticed any change in the acquisiton time or refresh rate since the update, but I do not use the Ecoroute function either.

Less fuel or lower tolls

I guess you have to get out the calculator and figure if the tolls on the Econoroute cancel out the savings from using less fuel.

firmware v5.00

Mattb wrote:

It would seem that updating to firmware v5.00 fixed my routing issue, at least in simulation mode.

That's great to hear!

Now, that is great customer service. I didn't think they would let something like that go long, but still that's pretty good timing.

finally 5.0 is here ...phewwwwww

Hopefully 5.0 fixed that problem and didn't create new one wink
