Long Term Ram Mounts

Hi Would someone please tell me how the Ram Mounts for a Nuvi 760 perform as I have had nothing but problems with the Garmin suction mount on the windscreen of my my car the darn thing falls off at will no matter how well I clean the windscreen and after a few nasty frights with clutch, brake etc... and Nuvi involved I have put some clips with a double sided tape backing on them along the pillar close to the unit so if it falls it only drops a couple of inches and stays there until I can reattach it
I have read about the bean bag mount but this would not suit my car due to the way the dash is made and as the car is a 4x4 I would like to get something that will last the distance the 760 is a great unit but it is let down by that stupid suction cup mounting and I want to replace it with something that I know will work
Many thanks to any replies
Ram Mount
I have 2 Ram Mounts that I have bought to replaced the Garmin Mounts. They are very well constructed.
The rubber cup is made with a thicker type of rubber. May have some silicon in it. One hae been stuck on my bean bag for 4 months, the other has been stuck to dash, in front of the tach., for 3 months in my Wife's car. Garmin should buy Ram Mounts to come with their GPSs

Dash mount
Just get the dash mount. It's much better.
If you "must" use a suction mount then the RAM mounts are good ones. I've used one for my 76CSx for years. The thing stays stuck for weeks or months before coming loose and then I just clean the windshield and the suction cup and it's good for another extended period. Temps here range from the 20's to 112 or so. The mount doesn't seem to care.

Garmin permanent style mount suggestion for Nuvi's
Below is a link to a photo montage I took of the Garmin Model # 010-10969-00 mount that I installed in both of my car. It is almost invisible when the cradle is not attached to it, it is very stable, easily viewed by driver, allows easy access to the screen for both driver and passenger and it makes the GPS less obvious to thieves.
I tried the windshield mount, beanbag mount and AC vent mount but all had problems. This mount only costs $5 from Garmin and if you have a location that will allow a permanent mount I would highly endorse this one.
It was easy, quick and inexpensive to install. My favorite combination.
I ordered directly from the Garmin site for only $5.

I have a RAM mount for my Streetpilot 7200, which is a heavy unit. It's mounted in my truck (big truck) which gets its fair amount of slamming and banging about. Never had a problem with the gps falling off.
Their quite pricey, but worth every penny.

Permanent Mount
I recommend this as well. My c580 would stay on the dash well, except in extreme cold or heat with the factory mount. After seeing the above post this summer I bought three - and never regretted it. I screwed the mount to the dash in my E-250 with no problems. My grand marquis and suburban have panavise mounts that I had installed previously for cell phones.
Part of my reason for getting them was it gets the gps out of the sun and away from the defroster.
Can't beat the price either.

Have you consider using ProClip?

Have you consider using ProClip? A two part mounting device designed for the device and car. Can be somewhat pricey (+/- $30) but sturdy and well manufactured. I've used it in my Lexus ES300 and Honda Ridgeline with great satisfaction.

Does it have adhesive or is it screwed in?

Thank you all for your replies you have given me a few more options (other than driving 6 inch nails through my suction cup
on how to keep my Nuvi 760 in place I must admit I like the permanent mounting but will have to see if it fits my car
(Mazda Bravo 4x4) if there is no room then its the Ram Mount for sure.
I just hope they will ship to Australia

The mount has four holes in the back that you will need to get screws for. There are standards in the industry for cell phone and radio mounts and such. The holes align with those. I would assume that you could use a heavy (strong) adhesive and it would work as well.
My panavise mounts screw to my dash (after you remove the trim) and then angle toward the driver. I can try and take some pictures if you like tonight.
