Sound effects WITHOUT speed or proximity alert enabled

Hi,

Here's my problem. I've created many many sound effects for each CSV file I have. Sonic, Walmart, McDonald's, etc etc. However, I do NOT want these POI's to play the sound effect just cause I'm in the proximity. I only want them to play the sound effect if I am navigating to that specific POI. So, if I choose to "GO TO" the nearest Walmart then I expect it to play the Walmart sound effect when I arrive. But if I select "GO TO" Arby's and I must drive by Walmart, I do not need the Walmart sound effect playing.

I believe I have this setup done correctly but I'm still not getting the desired results. I'm coming to the conclusion that you can not play custom sound effects for a POI without setting a proximity alert or speed alert on the POI. Correct?

Now, I don't understand this whole GPX thing but if the above questions answer is "yes" then is the same thing true for GPX files? Can I create sound effects for POI's in GPX files without the need to setup proximity/speed alerts?

Thanks a lot,

When you use the manual mode

When you use the manual mode for poiloader and set the alerts. You will get the alert anytime you are driving on the same road and are within the coordinates.Csv or Gpx.

Yes... I know

Yes... I know but that didn't answer my question at all. :/

Probably...

That's certainly normal, for Custom POIs created with POILoader.

However...

That's not to say that the device definitely can't do it ...
...I'm thinking (out loud) of some combination of Garmin's Voice Creator and their 'directional' proximity alerts (for which there is currently no interface).

How much time and money do you want to invest in a solution?

Garmin's Content Toolkit is $500...

If you just wanted the same, custom sound for arrival at your destination, you could do that (using one of the VPM Voice Editors).

Also, you could experiment with setting a tiny alert distance. It might not detect you as being close enough when navigating, but it has different logic to know when you've arrived.

Additionally, try <proximity>0.0</proximity> in a gpx file. (Having Proximity=0 is different to omitting the statement, but I don't know exactly how).

Ussing you example if you go

Using you example if you go to for Arbys and pass McDonalds on the way and have the alerts set for both you will get alert for both. That is the way it works. You can use one of you custom poi files and select certain ones to just alert using the following method from POILoader help.

Speed information can be included in the file name or in the names of individual POIs within the file.

POI Loader determines speed information based on the following information, listed from highest to lowest priority:

Speed information included in the name of the individual Custom POI. For example, a POI named "SpeedZone@30" will have an alert speed of 30 regardless of the speed information specified in Manual mode or in the file name.

Speed information entered in Manual mode.

Speed information included in the file name. POI Loader interprets any numbers in the file name as speed information

Hornbyp, Thanks for that

Hornbyp,

Thanks for that info. I'm not willing to drop $500. However, can this content toolkit be downloaded? ;X lol (I'm searching)

FYI for any other readers, here's a place (http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Downloads) to get some interesting programs for further customization of your GPS and it's files. Including editing the voices themselves. My GPS has a foul mouth and that's fine with me.

Unfortunately, what I'm trying to do can't be done unless you have the Content Toolkit.

What you want to do is not

What you want to do is not possible (ok I suppose nothing is totally impossible) There is no connection between an alert you make for a POI and creating a route to a POI. Creating a route does not access the sound file you made it uses the GPS voice you have chosen. When you say you don't want it to announce a POI just because it is in the vicinity - unfortunately for you that is exactly the function of making a POI with an alert.

Next .....

Hey Text,

I see you're recieving answers all over the map here. Let me give it a shot and try to keep it simple.

As long as you don't have any speed or distance information included in your POI files you won't notified when passing any of them. When you set one (or more) as a destination then you 'will' hear your appropriate sound effect on arrival.

Be sure your csv file and sound effect are titled 'exactly' alike with the exception of the extension (csv, mp3) and the same if you have a custom icon (bmp) file.

Not?

Hmmm, that isn't very helpful, why not?

My response was based entirely on facts provided in the original post. It doesn't say what kind of GPS he/she has (other than posting in the Garmin section). It doesn't mention being spoken to rather than hearing the custom tone. Granted, while most newer units have a voice that'll tell you you're arriving at your destination (rather than use a sound) I assumed his/hers does not based on the post. Maybe it's an older Streetpilot?

If you click on the name it

If you click on the name it shows Garmin 360.

I believe the OP wants a custom announcement at the destination, not the spoken default. I don't understand what he is after, but I'm guessing he wants something comedic.
