Error With Communicator and USB

I've just bought a Garmin Edge 705 for my bike - great piece of kit.

I've installed all the software as per the instructions but I seem to have problems with the GPS being recognised by programs. The Garmin Test page says that Communicator Plug-in is not installed yet it shows in the Control Panel Remove programs list and I am able to import my route data from Training Centre (and upload to the device too).

When the test page came up there was no option to active the ActiveX.

I saw an icon in the systray - gStart - this also does not recognise that the GPS is attached to the PC. Just to clarify - I'm running Vista x32 in Admin mode on a Quad Core system with plenty of resources, RAM etc.

I have tried two other programs - one called SportTracks which is on my PC and one called MotionBased which is an upload to a web server. Neither 'see' my GPS as attached.

When I connect the GPS to the PC via the USB cable it opens up a window as if it's a Mass Storage Device.

I have scoured the internet for answers to this issue but to no avail. I do have a laptop with XP installed and the device (and my wifes Forunner 405) work fine.

Can anyone please help me out? I am really stuck here.

Thanks in advance,

Rich
