Help with CSV File

An example of a line in an custom csv file is as follows - -
-97.335931,37.681976,McDonald's,411 S Broadway St Wichita KS 67202
When I choose this location on my Garmin 255w all I see on the GO screen is McDonald's. I have to hit the "more" button to get the address. I would like to get both the name AND address on the GO screen. What am I missing?

You would have to format it

You would have to format it as:

-97.335931,37.681976,McDonald's 411 S Broadway St Wichita KS 67202

or

-97.335931,37.681976,"McDonald's,411 S Broadway St Wichita KS 67202"

But it would probably not all show up on the screen

Try creating your POI file using Excel. The fourth column will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can also but line breaks in the fourth column to separate address, city state and phone number, etc. Press Alt+Enter where you want the break.

Adding Info to POI

As others have stated, it's all in the 3rd column.

For practical purposes the number of characters in the 3rd column is between 15 and 20 - including spaces as the 3.5 inch screens will not display more than 20 characters. (My Nuvi 200 does 18.)

New Nüvi behaviour?

There are various pre-defined locations within the .GPI file. Using csv files, you can only access a limited number of them. The 4th column in a csv file is written into the 'comment' field of the GPI file.
Up until now, most units (except the Nüvi 3xx series), have used the 'comment' data to replace missing 'address' data. So owners of other Nüvis would see the 'comment' data on the 1st screen - and have probably never seen the "More" button.

However, Garmin seem to have changed tack on recent units - and if the 'address' info is missing, then so-be-it. The area reserved for it is left blank, and the 'comment' (and/or) 'description' are output on the 2nd page, which seems to have always been the original intention. (I think the 8xx series behaves this way too).

Some of the responses you have received, are suggesting that you should merge your 'address' data into the 'name' field instead. However, if you switch to using .gpx input instead of csv, you can put your 'address' info in the 'address' fields!. Then it will display as you intended it to.

Wow! Thanks for all of the

Wow! smile Thanks for all of the input!
Let me explain how I am doing things and what I would like to happen.
I found a fairly easy way to find a large number of locations on Google Earth, and save them in a single KML file. I then use KMLCSV Converter to save as a CSV file. I have tried various configurations in KMLCSV Converter without success. ( Name AND address on the GO page) Because the file is large, I really don't want to edit it in notepad line by line. I have Excel, but do not have any experience with it other than finding and removing duplicate addresses. Maybe if an Excel template could be created that would combine/merge two columns, then that could do what I want. I have not tried a GPX editor, and that might be the way to go. ( if it is not too expensive. smile ) I think my Garmin will import gpx files directly.
