Need Help! - via michelin x930

Hey everyone quick question.... I just bought the via michelin handheld x930 and was wondering how to put more poi's onto it. In the software the gps came with I have a POI manager thing but It only accepts .asc and .poi files. I am so confused right now since I'm not seeing any of those on the internet and only seeing these .csv files.
If anyone could tell me if these .poi files are even available I'd appreciate it
thanks in advance

plz can anyone explain?

plz can anyone explain?

The only reference I could

The only reference I could find to adding additional POI's is this from page 19 of the user manual.

.
"Practical POIs
Discover the wide variety of practical and useful addresses selected by ViaMichelin and grouped into convenient categories such as:
Petrol stations, Car parks, Garages, Having a drink, Culture, Leisure activities, Local shops, Food shops, Shopping, Beauty care, Going out, Sports

For more information, go to www.shop.ViaMichelin.co.uk.

You can also easily download additional POI files from the ViaMichelin online store: for example, download, for free, the speed camera locations (for France only) which are updated monthly (as supplied by the French Road Safety Authorities)."
.

Try the program POI Edit

http://www.poiedit.com

You can open and edit csv files, then save them as asc files and use your POI Manager to load to your unit.

thank you guys for the info

thank you guys for the info I appreciate it... PS: I'm using the north america version

The u.s. version of X930

I try the poi manager from the CD. The poi name will show up under the "saved address" instead of "POI", but there are nothing, when I serach all.

Viamichelin tech support is till working on helping me to get at least a POI into my X-930.

I suspect it will never work.

Also, US and UK version of x-930 have different asc file format.

info from viamichelin site

To create an "asc" file to add to your ViaMichelin Navigation X-930, follow the instructions below. You have to create an "asc" file for each type of saved item to be imported (which also means you can subsequently delete saved items solely for a given category).

On your PC:

1 - Create a text file.

2 - Open this text file and create your saved items as follows:

- Each line must contain information on a single saved item only and use the following syntax:

- {Longitude}, {Latitude}, {"Name"},

- (for example: 2.142436, 48.835248, "Le Carrefour Restaurant”)

- The separator is the comma ","

- The name must be enclosed in quotation marks " "

- Lines preceded by a semi-colon ";" are treated as comment lines

- Longitude and Latitude must be specified in degrees and fractions of degrees.

3 - Rename the text file using "asc" as the extension: e.g.: "MyRestaurants.asc"

4 - Save this file in the folder of your choice.

5 - Check that your ViaMichelin Navigation X-930 system is connected and that the link with your PC is working.

6 - Start "POI Manager".

7 - Select the saved "asc" file in the folder of your choice and confirm.

8 - Select the category of saved items to which imported saved items will be attached.

After importing the file into your ViaMichelin Navigation X-930, you can set the display and the POI Warner as you want.

EXAMPLE OF AN "asc" FILE:
------------------------------------------------------------
; Example File
;
; Longitude, Latitude, "Name of saved item"
; =========== ============ =========================
2.3336, 48.8675, "Michelin Store near Opera"
2.2935, 48.8587, "Eiffel Tower"
-1.460885, 43.484898, "Bayonne Centre"

; End of file

POIs for X-930

Ok so I got this GPS for Christmas this year and immediately had to upgrade it so. Here is how I did it. I did as kch50428 said and got poiedit from http://www.poiedit.com

Then I went and got all the POIs from this site that I wanted. Opened them in poiedit and saved as .asc files. Next I got the image logos I wanted to use for each POI (ex. I got the wal mart happy face for the wal mart POI) I resized the logo files to 22px x 22px and saved then as .bmp files.

Next I opened the POI manager that came with the X-930 and imported the .asc file then ad new category and tell it what .bmp file you want to use and the catigory name you want them under. and then sync them with your GPS. They end up under your addresses in there own catigory instead of in the POIs. dont know why but its only a little annoying. I can still find any walmart in the country.
Hope this helps.
Just had to let you know that some of the .csv files didnt work with poiedit like Target poi?? dont know why but most worked. The speed cams did and its great to see my bart simpson mooning where ever a speed cam is set up on I-95!!!
