Recycling Centers

Has anyone thought about a POI for Recycling centers? I know that most people can find out one time for their area and then they don't have to worry about it again. So in that case it's might not be very useful. The reason I'm asking is that I have no idea where one is around my cabin, and led me to think that it would be nice for the GPS to show me.

That is a GREAT Idea!

I will be glad to help as needed! I can either create and or help maintain a POI File for Recycling Centers.

I will compile some in my area of Illinois (there seem to be some in almost every town if you know where to look.)

I will also post a few that I know about in the Juneau and Adams counties in Wisconsin.

I have a couple dozen so far... Will provide these when I get home.

Thank you. mrgreen

Where to find

Did you find a listing of them anywhere? I did a little bit of looking yesterday for Michigan and didn't have much luck. I'm sure it's just a matter of finding the right site.

I'll gladly do Michigan, and will help expand from there as time permits.

County

In my area of Florida, recycling is not handled at the state level, hence, no easy state-wide listing. Its done at the county and sometimes at the city level which will be much more tedious to compile.

I knew about some in the three areas I frequent - in Ohio where I'm from, in Northern Illinois where I now live, and in Central Wisconsin where we go several times a year.

Just now - did a search for "recycling centers" The first site came up as

recyclingcenters.org - thousands of them across the country. It looks like many of them are local contractors that will recycle. An example is one that I know that will take your scrap metal, steel, iron, copper, etc... There are all the standard recycling centers listed on this site as well.

That said - I don't know the legal possibility of using the information from that site. I do see in the "Terms and Conditions" link at the bottom of the web site states no data mining, etc...

I have been collecting data for Household Hazardous Waste Collection Locations. But have not yet put in POI format. The problem is every state has different website, EPA does not provide centralized data... Will let everyone know if I am successful in collecting all data!!

Thanks.
