Traffic subscription question

I've purchased the lifetime subscription for my Nuvi and along with the activation code, I received the following instructions:

1. Go to http://www.garmin.com/webupdater to download and install WebUpdater on your computer.
2. Connect the device to your computer.
3. Run WebUpdater, and follow the onscreen instructions. After confirming that you want to perform an update, WebUpdater automatically updates the software.
4. Click Next to check for additional updates for your unit.
5. Select Firmware Update for GTMxx Traffic Receiver and click Next.

Instead of doing the above, I tried to enter the code in from the Add Subscriptions screen on my Nuvi when it was connected to my traffic receiver. I received an error that the code was invalid.

The reason I didn't do the above is because I do NOT want to upgrade the firmware on my Nuvi due to the problems people are having with the latest upgrade.

Is there a way around this? Thanks for any help.

See my 760

See how I was able to do it on my 760.

Should work for the 770.

Just Choose The Update Needed

Mark,

As the instructions say just choose the "update GTMxx traffic receiver". Don't select anything else. Hopefully you can just cherrypick that one item without being required to update other firmware.

Cheers

Completed the Firmware Update for GTMxx Traffic Receiver

However, when I enter my code, I'm getting an invalid code message. Tried it 4 different times, using the "-" and without the "-". Tried it with CAPS and without.

Any suggestions?

you must update the GPS device’s software and the GTM

The email I received with my lifetime traffic code in addition to what you posted above also clearly states that you MUST update both the GPS and the receiver to enable lifetime traffic. I updated both and had no trouble entering the code. One of the firmware update notes actually says that the lifetime traffic addition was part of the unit firmware update.

Quote from the email I received:

"To enable your traffic subscription follow the steps below:

Step 1: Update the Software

Before enabling your new traffic subscription, you must update the GPS device’s software and the GTM traffic receiver’s software."

I did that as well

I ended up updating both. I'm running 4.6 and have updated the Traffic Firmware as well. Still no luck with the code.

Don't

Don't use caps or any spaces and it should work I just did mine and it worked, the first letter will be cap but not the rest wink

No Luck

I guess a call to Garmin support is in order for tomorrow. Thanks for the help though.

Found the problem

I had NOT registered my Nuvi, for the simple reason that I did not want to update my firmware. No registered Nuvi, no traffic subscription.

I registered and all is well. Thanks for everyone's help.

If you look at my post above, I was able to register my 760 without upgrading the firmware. Worked very well. Read every post.

Traffic Subscription

Strange, I was able to run Webupdater, install all the required updates, activate the traffic subscription (no code needed), and all worked fine. However, this is for the Nuvi 265WT which comes with the lifetime traffic and I have not registered it yet as I read that if you wait until a time before the map updates come out they are free.
