350 Picture Show

When I run the picture show on my 350, the pictures are not covering the entire screen. If I stop the show, I can blow up each individual picture to cover the entire screen. However, as soon as I start the picture show again, the pictures go back to the smaller size and only cover about a third of the screen. Is there any way to correct this so that my pictures cover the entire screen during the picture show mode?

320 x240

The screen on the 350 is 320 x 240. Did you size all your pictures to that?

NO....

How would I do that?

If you Google "Resize Pictures", you'll find lots of free options.

So, if you had this suggestion, why did you ask, "How would I do that?",

320 x 240 just a minimum size

the pictures don't have to be 320 x 240; that's just the minimum dimensions. however, to fill the screen without introducing letterboxing (unused space on either the top and bottom and/or the sides of the screen) the image size should be the same ratio as 320 x 240, ie:

400 x 300
640 x 480
800 x 600
1024 x 768
etc etc ...

320 x 240 is the most efficient size, since you gain nothing but less storage space from using larger images.

most of the images shipped with the 350 are 1024 x 768, a size that allows them to be used also as backgrounds & screensavers on most standard size desktop & laptop monitors.

The pictures that I uploaded to the Garmin 350 were from my digital camera and all of those photos were and are stored in formats larger than 320 x 240 yet they only fill a third of the screen on the 350.

The friend who sent me the converter software after I posted this message, went through this same ordeal with a Garmin 750. The 750's screen needed the pics to be converted to a 480 x 272 format to fit his screen in picture show mode. Again, his pics also came from a digital camera that had saved the pics in a much larger format. He figured this out with the assistance of Garmin Tech support.

So, it appears that when uploading pics to Garmin's and playing them in picture show mode, they have to be formatted to the Garmin factory specs or they will not cover the entire screen.

check the dpi

the image resolution should = 72dpi. i'm betting your camera image resolution is set much higher than that. in photoshop the dpi can be changed using the same dialog window for resizing the image ("image size ...")

Yep...

You're correct...I keep my camera set at a very high resolution for 8 x 10 portraits.

Thanks for the info...

Got it figured out...

OK, took all of the pics off of the Garmin. Converted the pics to a
320 x 240 format and reloaded all of the pics back on the Garmin.

After running the picture show mode, the pictures now fit the entire screen.
