campgrounds

i loaded the state parks onto my nuvi, when finished and i checked them all it said was campground, no name of the campground or any info at all is this correct?

Maybe

Sometimes the makers of the poi files don't provide a lot of information, Just the coordinates. Some have lots of info. Most people try to include name address and Phone.

Which File?

Since you didn't specify a file, I checked the Ohio State Parks file (since that is where you live), but it shows park names. Which file has the problem?

campground

complete list of state parks.......

.

You will need to provide a link to the file you are talking about. There are at least a dozen files that are State Parks.

That particular file

That particular file (Complete list of State Parks) does not include the names of the parks.

Foolish Me

I was looking under "S" for State, "P" for Parks, and "C" for Campgrounds. I wonder how many people will find it under "Complete".

Anyway, you are correct, the third column is all the same, "Campground". What a waste -- makes the file next to worthless. Nice project for somebody to look them up and add the state/city and park name. Somebody did a lot of work initially, and it would have been quite easy to add that info at that time. No batch technique that I know of to fix it now.

Just why is it worthless? Are you too lazy to make two touches to show you the map, which will show you the name of the park.

How many people open 30 or 40k Database file to find a destination? If you are using GPS receiver to plan trips with, you don't have the correct tool.

If you are looking for a Park near your location, or route or destination, two touches show you the name on the map.

And last, what difference does the Name make? Is that going to make the decision on visiting.

Actually, this is last, if it's so important to you, why don't you do the research and find the names and add them to the file? Why put it off on somebody else as a "nice project". How about you being the somebody?

Sorry for the rant, Miss POI, if it's inappropriate, delete it and I'll move along somewhere else.

NOT TO ME i build these files for myself, the way I USE THEM, i share them with all of you, in MY thinking when traveling it will pull up the closest 50 anyway so you just hit the closest one to you and go ! simple , i see no need for the EXTRA info. for my use, so to me it is NOT WORTHLESS

Next to worthless

He said 'next to worthless.' That's better than nothing, but of little value.

If 50 waypoints are displayed, and you have to touch each one twice, then that's up to 100 touches to find the one your looking for. Maybe I can look up the address or find enter the POI name in that amount of time.

Besides, how is looking at the map going to help you identify anything if you don't know where it is? Why would you use GPS when you already know where it is?

The last time I used the GPS, I was going to a specific church for a wedding, and to a specific restaurant where my meal was already paid for, and to a specific hotel where my luggage was waiting in a room already paid for.

I was not from that town, and had no clue where I was going.

Campgrounds

I definately will not say that a file is worthless if only the common name (in this case it is campground) is displayed or appears in the file. I will say that I personally find it annoying not to have the correct name displayed. I am reworking (for my own benefit and subsequently anyone elses) three files that are of that nature. Once I complete them and I think they are pretty good, I will talk to the maintainer or someone at POIFactory about replacing the file with the reworked file.

Then you wouldn't be using a custom POI file then, would you? Your comments aren't germane to this particular instance.
