any way to add "where am i?" feature to nuvi 260

I have a nuvi 260 and my son has a nuvi 200 and he has a feature on his that i would like to have on my gps that i dont have. it is the the 'where am i?" I was wondering if any one out there has any idea if it is possible to program that feature in my nuvi 260?

.

Sorry, it's not possible.

Try to run the web update to

Try to run the web update to install the latest software version see if that will help. Originally from the Garmin Spec it listed that the 200 and 200w does not have the where I'm feature, but after I ran the web update with the latest software version 4.6. My user interface (200w) looks like those newer models.

The 260/260w suppose to be an enhancement version of the 200/200w which can speak the street names, therefore I would think the 260/260w should have what the 200/200w and more.

I have the nuvi 200 and mine

I have the nuvi 200 and mine doesn't have a "where am I" feature.... I just updated mine as well.

My 260

has the latest firmware 5.0 update and there is no "Where Am I" feature that I can find. Doesn't look like that's part of the update for the 260.

Where am I

I bought 2 new units on same day from walmart and one has the where am i feature (4.6) and the other does not (5.0)

They funny thing is the web updater say that they are both up to date.

Both are a nuvi 260 and both came with different chargers. Sad thing is that i bought 2 so they would both be the same....exactly.

Can i load / force the same software on the units or would they be 2 different units just using the same model number because MFG was changed mid stream.

Where Am I

On the Garmin website if you look at the specs for both the 200 and 260 it shows neither has the Where Am I feature....

A newer version of Nuvi 260

I bought a Nuvi 260 a couple of months ago which has many additional features, such as "Where Am I", multiple VIA point insertion and a different Firmware version (updated to latest with WebUpdater) than earlier versions of the 260 that 3 friends of mine have.

Processor Change

There has been a processor change in the nuvi 2X0 models after the 2x5 models came out. If you have the older one, it does not have many of the new features that appeared in the nuvi 2x5 models.

If I had recently bought a new 260 and it doesn't have the new features, I'd return it, or call Garmin Customer Service.

Do you know if these new 2x0 models have the same processor as the 2x5 models ?

Thanks

Old and New Nuvi 260

Nuvi 260 Revision A (does not have where am I)
-SW 5.0
-smaller charger
-Where am I -NO
-SD Slot (large opening)

Nuvi 260 Revision B (does have the where am I)
-SW 4.6
-bigger bulky charger
-Where am I -YES
-MicroSD slot (small opening)

You will find it printed on the box in very small print bottom left on UPC side of box.

Hope this helps someone...Garmin support didnt even know that they made 2 revision with same model number that resulted in a different GPS unit, options, feel, slot size and other features.

?

Did the processor change with the newer version?

The newer harhware cpu is reportedly faster. I don't know if there are other differences but there might not be. Whatever the hardware difference, Garmin has chosen to let the 2x0 serise built on the new hardware platform have some but not all of the features of the 2x5 serise. the new 2x0s get multi-via points, for example, but do not get the ecoroute toy. They are not promoting the new features in the product specs, I would imagine this is both to not cause problems for any retailer who has "new old" stock and to make the 2x5 product line look more attractive in the hopes that some users will buy a 2x5 rater than a less expensive 2x0.

206w where iam i

I have a 206w it has this on it, go to garmin and up date i did and it works good. My 206w had old software on it, thats the reason i got a good price on it $179.00.

260W

My unit has the feature on it but it is a newer version of the 260W with updated software from Garmin.

"Where am I"?

I guess You need it to find Your car? You can always work around this issue by selecting current location as "Home" or just adding it to "Favorites" and then delete is when no longer needed.

Where Am I

This is what the Where Am I is?Emergency locator, you always know your location. Simply tap the screen to get your exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and fuel stations.

where am i

Just a clarification. Be sure to tap the car on the screen to get the where am i info. tapping anywhere else on the screen with just switch the 3d view to 2d view.

I bet they could add this to most models with a firmware update

I thought about this when I first head of the feature, and it seems to be a nice feature from the description. I don't have it on my 200, but I bet they could do it with a new firmware. It looks like in an emergency situation it would be very helpfull. I hope if it is possible Garmin will add this feature to other units.

You only tap the Where Am I icon. The vehicle is not shown in this mode.On the left side it will display the present coordinates, nearest address and nearest intersection. You can touch save location at the bottom of the screen.Right side shows hospitals, police stations and fuel. You touch one of the icons to get a name and location.Like other pois they are shown closest to you.It is a nice feature to have when traveling or for a emergency.

You will find Where Am I under tools.

On the 760, tapping the vehicle icon brings up the Where Am I feature, too. It's a quicker shortcut to get there if you are already on the view map screen or if you are navigating.

It's a nice shortcut instead of going into the POI menus to find the nearest gas station, police or hospital separately.

I have used both methods.The

I have used both methods. The one advantage of the where am I screen is the coordinates are already showing with no tapping.

Hi. I've got the later model

Hi.

I've got the later model 260 (Jan '09)
It has the MicroSD slot. "Where am I". and the other services when you touch and hold, the peripherals on
the screen.

I was reading in some post. that the 260 has Photo Navigation. But I can't find it on mine.

It also has a camera. but I don't know where photo's go??
Any Idea anybody

Macka17

Wouldn't it be nice?

Like the automobile ads that read "build your own" Garmin could list all the different features with their prices and then build a custom unit to your specs.
And, yes, I know that it couldn't be cost effective, no mass production for other outlets, no discounts, etc. but. Wouldn't it be nice?
